An Inspired Chat with Adrian Jones of Columbus

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Adrian Jones. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Adrian, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I wake up and I do a daily devotional , I try to start my day with an attitude of gratitude. Then I mentally go over my day and all things I have to do, my husband recently suffered a stroke so I make sure he is all squared away and has all the things he needs. I go down and grab some coffee. I then jump in the shower get dressed grab a protein shake and head out the door.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello my name is Adrian Jones and I am the owner of Kennedy’s Kakes. Kennedy’s Kakes is a custom design cake boutique in downtown Columbus,Ohio. We reside in a historical hotel The Westin. We specialize in wedding cakes, special occasion custom cakes and petite sweets.
I began as a home baker while working a full time job as an esthetician and makeup artist all while being a single mom. I juggled this life until I decided to take a leap of faith and go full time with my side hustle. It was definitely a road of ups and downs but it did take me to an opportunity to rent a space in a commercial kitchen. With in this time I met my husband and he became my partner in crime or buttercream. All this team work is where I buckled down and learned all about process and procedures. I hired my first employee and things were going great. Until they weren’t, Covid happened and I had to learn to pivot. And pivot is what I did which was a great thing for me and it allowed me to gain an opportunity to get the space at The Westin.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful was when I packed up my things and moved to Boston and I felt powerful everyday surviving in a city on my own.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me about patience, how to improvise and how to adapt.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say my faith and my relationships really matter the most to me.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If I retire tomorrow my customers will miss my personality and genuine passion for baking and creating for them. Also I believe they will miss the personal connections we have built over the years. Its not just about the cakes. It’s about the experience I strive to create. My goal has always been to make my customers feel like family, whether it was through designing a custom cake or simply sharing a moment in the bakery. I cherish those relationships and I know I will miss that most I believe they will too.
