Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt & Christine Shaw.
Hi Matt & Christine, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
We have always loved the Hocking Hills in southeast Ohio, and have lived here our entire lives. We built our house on a part of the family farm, and have raised our five kids there. After working in Columbus for 27 years, we decided to start our own small business, building and renting custom tiny houses on wheels to tourists.
Our designs are clean and modern, and we provide all our guests need to have a wonderful tiny house experience – a kitchenette full of amenities to make your own meals, bathrooms with showers, sleeping accommodations for two to four people, wonderful views from inside and out, and great proximity to restaurants, coffee shops, a brewery and winery, and all the great Hocking Hills caves, waterfalls, and hiking trails. We currently have five tiny houses and plan to add two more new custom designs in 2023.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our biggest challenge has been finding good locations for our tiny houses on wheels.
We’ve been blessed to have one on a beautiful lakeside lot (the Gladiola Tiny House), two others with good views of the lake adjacent to a wonderful family-friendly campground, and still two more on their own private lots overlooking a beautiful wooded hillside. We are constantly looking for great locations in our area for future tiny houses!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Hocking Hills Tiny Houses?
We started Hocking Hills Tiny Houses in 2019, and have since built five custom, modern tiny houses on wheels that we rent to tourists in the Hocking Hills area.
We consistently get high marks – “5 stars” – from our guests for providing beautifully-crafted, very clean accommodations outfitted with all anyone needs to have a great experience in the Hocking Hills. They are well-suited for all seasons, including winter when the snow and ice provide for beautiful landscapes.
What’s next?
With our son Isaac and daughter-in-law Hannah, we are currently building our sixth tiny house on wheels, and have plans for a seventh. These new designs, which will be available in 2023, will provide wonderful getaways for lone retreats or small family vacations.
