Inspiring Conversations with Cory & Kelsey Morris of MVMNT Coffee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cory & Kelsey Morris.

Hi Cory & Kelsey, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
We started forming the business in late 2019 after years of roasting coffee at home with a never-ending desire for better and more interesting coffee. We have tried roasted coffee in a few different ways, starting with a cast iron skillet, popcorn poppers, modified toaster ovens, and now our industrial drum roaster.

We eventually started setting up at different events selling our coffee and giving out samples, then one thing led to another and now we moved the roastery out of our basement and we’re currently in the process of building out our cafe!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With me (Cory) being a full-time mechanic, and Kelsey being a full-time mom, trying to dedicate ourselves to this project on top of our already busy life has been hard.

We’re self-funded and self-taught, and neither of us ever worked in the coffee industry before, so we’ve had to make a lot of mistakes, and learn on the run in most situations. Overall, that approach has taught us new ways of doing things that may be unorthodox in the coffee industry and helps us be creative in the way we operate.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about MVMNT Coffee Co.?
As a business, we try to be an approachable, unpretentious, and affordable source of freshly roasted, responsibly sourced, and great-tasting coffee. We want to create a place where a young coffee enthusiast can come experience a really special single-origin natural process coffee, as well as where your grandpa can come grab a cup and chat with friends, a place to bridge that gap and give all people a seat at the table.

As individuals, our main priority is to be the hands and feet of Jesus and serve others with excellence. We have always valued businesses that offer great personal connections and a special experience. We know that the greatest product experience can be diminished by a poor personal experience, and strive to be a business that sees both the product and customer experience as equal. So whether you want a plain coffee with cream and sugar, or a pour-over of an anaerobic Kenya micro-lot we’re here to love and serve you.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
All of our success we credit to the faithfulness of God, and all the doors he’s opened for us along this journey. There have been so many things we’ve viewed as impossible along the way that have ended up working out.

The right people have come into our lives at the right time to help us through, give us advice, or even sell us equipment. Also, we couldn’t leave off without thanking our loyal customer/fan base whose regular orders keep us moving and keep the lights on.
