Today we’d like to introduce you to Doneta Dawson.
Hi Doneta, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I started my business as a Singer/Songwriter, Author, and recording artist in 2011. Releasing my initial project R&B Repent & Believe in 2013 and later my first book ‘Worship Unprecedented…. Kingdom Foundations in Worship’.
In 2021 after being laid off from my job in IT I registered Pure Heart Media a faith-based company that serves the community with media that changes the world through worship. It started as a way to house my music, books, apparel, and ministry endeavors.
Currently, Pure Heart Media has released more musical projects, allowing me to train worship teams, contract voice-over work, and currently, launch the ministry venture ‘Kingdom Arts Fuzion’ a vision that bridges the gap between the creative and the church.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It most definitely has NOT been a smooth road. I have had my fair share of obstacles along the way. Promises from producers working with me then disappearing, to venues and events promoters not honoring their contracts. Learning the ins and out of owning your own business and the steps to get it up and running, registered, and in a place to bring forth revenue.
Learning the rhythm of entrepreneurship and the periods of abundant work, low work, and the in-betweens. It has been an adventure, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world I’ve learned many lessons along the way.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Singer/Songwriter, Author, and advocate for the creative. I have several recorded projects and I administer live music in faith-based and family-friendly spaces. I have authored one book, and several blog articles for my company. I also have a ministry that bridges the gap between the creative and the Church with community arts events in regions across the globe activating artists and having crucial conversations in the church to bridge that gap.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The greatest lesson I’ve learned is this….’ if it was easy everyone would do it. When moments arise and you don’t see what you may deem as success press anyway! Learn as much as you can about your industry. Do the paperwork to legitimize it and work it! You have no idea who your inspiring to do the hard thing by pursuing purpose and building that dream that they’ve always had.
