Inspiring Conversations with Haley Schaub of Boutique 143

Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Schaub. 

Haley, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My mom always had a vision of owning a boutique with her daughters – I have two sisters, Hannah & Colleen and I am the oldest. I am a kindergarten teacher and a mom of two little girls, Eleanore and Amelia, so even though I had (and still have) a full-time job, I loved the idea of starting a business with my mom and sisters – I mean what would be more fun than this?!? So, we all started doing a bunch of research on ways to start up our own business without having any background knowledge or experience. We took a leap of faith and started with what we were able to research, the money that we had, and all chose clothing items based on our own personal style. My sisters and I like a lot of the same items, but we still have our own touch to add to each style as well, so it was so fun picking out the first round of clothes that we wanted for our launch! We also felt that since all of us have a different style, as well as all different body types, that we really could market to a wide variety of girls and women! 

Our dad is a retired teacher, and being the only male in the family, has put up with our years of shopping trips, playing dress-up, and “fashion shows.” So, he also helps with running the business as our technical advisor. 

Our name, Boutique 143, and our love for fashion come from our Nana, who passed away in 2012. 143 stands for I (1) LOVE (4) YOU (3), her signature phrase, and the three rings in our logo signify the three generations that inspired this business. We also hope to add a ring for our daughters one day to take over the business if that is part of their dreams as well! 

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes and no – We work extremely well as a family and are very close. So, we can easily say, “No, I don’t think that works,” or “No, I don’t really like that outfit,” without someone’s feelings getting hurt. This helps A LOT when working with family. We are also always together, so we never really had to set up meetings to talk, which also helped. 

There were some drops in the beginning that we had a ton of traffic on and other drops that did not have as much. We tried to look at the clothing and figure out what people liked, what people didn’t like, etc. We sent out surveys on Instagram to see what people wanted more of, what they wanted less of. So, for us, figuring out what people wanted to buy, as well as what they were willing to pay for those items, was difficult. 

Marketing was also difficult because all we knew was Instagram and Facebook to market our business. Along the way, we have gained influencers that we love working with, as well as marketing campaigns and companies we also work with. We also attend community markets where people can come shop with us! 

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Boutique 143 is an online clothing business that promises to provide our customers with gorgeous, high-quality clothing that is affordable and makes women look and feel their best. We truly believe that girls and women change the world, and we make them feel great while doing so. 

We are best known for our tops because that is what we normally carry the most of (sweaters, off-the-shoulder tops, tanks, cardigans), but we also have jeans, 2-piece sets, rompers, dresses, accessories, earrings, shoes, shorts, loungewear, and jackets! 

Our clothes embody my, and my sisters’ styles, which are all different, so we truly believe that whatever style a woman has, we have something for them. We have something for everyone. We have items for the mom who does drop off at school, then runs errands, then meets her girlfriends for lunch. We have items for a teacher who is working with kindergartners and sits at circle time most of the day. We have items for the woman who works in an office and dresses professional every day. We have items for girls’ night, date night, weddings, showers, Any and all events for every woman’s lifestyle. We also do this at an affordable price so that women can feel great while not splurging on high-quality items. The best of both worlds! 

I am most proud that we have stuck to what we love. As a brand, my family and I have stuck with items that we would wear ourselves because if we wouldn’t love wearing them ourselves, why would anyone else? I can truly say that every single piece we have, I would wear and feel great wearing it. We stay true to who we are, and people seem to love that! 

Another thing we are most proud of is that we got asked to walk in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Fashion Show this year! It was AMAZING! We met so many wonderful people and really got our name out there!

We do live try-ons the day before so that our customers can see the fits on different body types and styled multiple ways. We also offer free shipping, always!
