Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassandra Hughes.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in Tremont, Cleveland, Oh. I went to Cleveland public schools my whole childhood and graduated from Regency Beauty Academy in 2014. I’ve been a hairstylist for roughly 9 years. After graduating high school, I wanted to study speech pathology. I’ve always loved doing hair but never thought I’d pursue it as a career. Long after some time in college, and working multiple jobs, I decided that I should do something I loved, that I actually enjoyed every single day. When I enrolled in cosmetology school it wasn’t exactly what I imagined, I actually hated it and had thoughts of withdrawing. I started working at a salon in Strongsville, OH as a receptionist and later did some assisting. Learning new things in an actual salon setting changed my mindset, and I gained so much passion for hair.
Moving on from assisting I worked at a few different salons around Cleveland, I’m thankful for each and every one of those experiences. You take a little bit from every learning experience, and it really makes who you become.
I’m now an independent stylist at The Lock Loft, in Lakewood, Oh. I work with some of THE most talented stylists in Cleveland. I’ve been working under The Lock Loft for 4 years and I couldn’t be more thankful for Ashlin (salon owner) for taking me under her wing.
Success isn’t built overnight; it takes a lot of hard work and dedication. I absolutely love doing hair, meeting new clients, and building relationships with them. The relationships built are so rewarding. I just love to enhance beauty and make clients happy. If my clients are happy, I’m happy! It’s all worth it!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This is definitely a cutthroat industry; it isn’t always easy. It comes with its challenges. You have to work hard and love what you do. Continuous education, keeping up with the latest trends. You can never stop learning.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a master of balayage ambassador. I specialize in balayage and brunettes, but I absolutely love my blondes too! I also do bridal styling!
I’m most proud of being a mom of two and being able to build a name for myself, and brand, and for my many successes over the years. I think what sets me apart from others is, I take so much pride in my work and business, I enjoy every minute of what I do and the services I’m able to provide.
