Today we’d like to introduce you to Carissa Godbott.
Hi Carissa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Carissa Godbott. I am the creator of The Green-Eyed Lady Blog, a Cleveland-based lifestyle blog about parenting, motherhood, travel, product reviews, and more.
The Green-Eyed Lady Blog started from a fashion blog and turned into a parenting/lifestyle blog. I am still a plus-size Fashionista at heart, but first I am a Wife (Darrick) and Mom! My blog covers topics relating to marriage and family. I have been a wife for 10 years, and I am a mother of three: Emma & Twins Darrick II (deceased), and DJ.
I cover a lot of information regarding my children. Emma was born with a Cleft Lip and Palate (had a NICU stay of 50 days) and is Autistic which we often discuss here on the blog. Emma is our “Sour Patch Kid”…sometimes she’s sweet, and sometimes she’s sour. But one thing that never changes is her being the ultimate Daddy’s Girl! Becoming parents has come along with a couple of challenges, but we couldn’t be more THANKFUL for this precious little girl.
A couple of years later, we were blessed with Identical Twins, Darrick II (who had a NICU stay of 58 days), and Douglass James (DJ). Their birth was very eventful due to finding out at birth Darrick II had Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) and only one working chamber in his heart. After many complications with Darrick’s heart, he passed away just shy of their 2-month birthday.
Although the topics surrounding our children can be heavy at times, I love sharing our journey because you never know who it’s helping.
I also love covering family events around Northeast Ohio and surrounding cities. And sharing recipes for things I have tried for my family or just for my husband and I.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of my struggles have been learning along the way. I started blogging in 2008, and at the time, I knew I wanted to share information, but I started without much information or research. A couple of years ago, I had to go back and change a lot of things that had been done in the beginning without much education and research.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have been in a creative space as a Blogger/Influencers since 2008. An accomplishment that I am proud of is our NICU Drive last Holiday Season. We were able to donate 35 Care Packages to families at Metro Health NICU in Cleveland, Ohio. Being a 2x NICU Family we knew at some point we wanted to give back because as former NICU Parents, we received care packages.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
I am in a lot of Facebook Groups for Bloggers and Influencers. These have helped tremendously in shaping my business. One of my favorite books is Brittany Hennessy-Influencer: Building Your Personal Brand in the Age of social media
