Inspiring Conversations with Jess Laughlin of xoLaughlinCo.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jess Laughlin. 

Hi Jess, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
When I lost my dad in 2016, I learned how much a small, thoughtful gift could impact someone as they are navigating their journey through grief. I noticed how differently I started to react and respond to others who struggled with loss and wanted to gift them the same experience. By fall of 2020, I knew I had to bring my love of gifting to others, so I launched xoLaughlinCo. 

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning my own business is quite a wild ride. I learn new things every week, if not daily. I’m lucky to be in such a welcoming small biz community – there are so many new woman-owned businesses that have launched since the pandemic that I feel comfortable navigating a world that is challenging, because I know so many others are doing the same. 

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My brand was launched in an effort to help others understand how to show love, support, normalizing grief one gift at time, and understanding through gifts. I feel like our society is lacking in its understanding of grief and how to support each other – it’s more than just a house plant or a pan of lasagna. Obviously, any person suffering is going to appreciate a kind gesture, but it’s the unexpected gifts that somehow say “hey, I see you and I’m here for you” or “I get it. You’re not alone” that can make all the difference in the world when your heart is breaking. I want to help others send that love and message every time. 

If I’m not designing my own products, I am purchasing from other small, woman-owned businesses to also support them on their journey. I make an effort to use eco-friendly, sustainable materials when gift wrapping and shipping all orders. A brand can do a lot of really amazing things with small efforts in areas that we forget about. I strive to support others and also keep an eye on mother nature’s needs, too. It not only makes me feel better about my work but allows the customer to feel good about their purchase each time.
