Today we’d like to introduce you to Yvette Morrow.
Hi Yvette, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always been someone who is passionate about expressing myself and “living out loud.” You can ask anyone who knows me if I’m going somewhere I’m going leave my mark – whatever it may be. In high school I radiated confidence that you could see from a mile away, I was unapologetically who I was and I felt so fortunate to embrace myself in such a way and LOVED sharing that with others and helping them do the same. The bond created from uplifting and creating positivity within each other is something I was really passionate about. I didn’t have access to the latest trends or fashions, but I embraced what I had and found ways to make my hand-me-downs and clearance thrift store finds ME! (Not knocking a good thrift, but in 2009, everyone wanted a bird label on the lower left side of their tanks, iykyk.) Over time, for a variety of reasons, that confidence that I was so proud of slowly faded, and I really lost myself and my passion for really anything. I went through so many twists and turns trying to figure out what was for me and what wasn’t, where I belonged and how I could contribute and share all of this built-up goodness in the forms of motivation and inspiration, and energy with the world. I had started to notice more fashion influencers’ presence on my IG feed, and it really caught my attention. I loved the energy and the personality these girls and guys put into something they were so passionate about. It wasn’t just about “making money” or selling, but about community and that is what caught my eye and made me want to jump in and be a part of this industry. Flogirlfinds_, my IG page, basically started off as me just putting myself out there to the world sharing what I thought to be cute and trendy outfits from my daily life on my social media pages, mainly Instagram. Embracing myself, showcasing my true personality, trying new things, and encouraging others to do the same. It’s like a journey we all started together. I would just get so excited finding good deals in places people wouldn’t normally expect or finding clothing pieces for half the price than people were used to finding them for that I wanted to share what I was finding for others to take advantage of as well. It’s like finding out an intense secret and immediately wanting to share it with your best friends. While it started off as just sharing my fitness journey and cute workout outfits with my friends and family followers, I have been able to grow my following, engagement, and outreach and it has since blossomed into something that I really cannot even believe at this point. Being able to share something that brings me so much joy and share that joy with others is such an incredible feeling. To think that I am here now working with programs like the Amazon Influencer Program, PinkBlush Affiliate Program, micro-influencing for likeminded brands through SocialCat, and collaborating with brands like Panera Bread, I just really cannot believe that something that just started out as what seemed such a far-fetched thought has blossomed into something so exciting that is STILL GROWING EVERY DAY.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In the beginning, there were so many self-conscious challenges such as how what I was doing would be accepted by others, how others would perceive me, I was sharing my real and raw self on the internet for anyone to see and that is SCARY. I will admit, there were some who had their opinions that were not so nice, and at times I would let that shut me down. It would make me feel like I did not belong and that I was overstepping into a world that had no room for me. It felt like my whole intention of widening this community was being shut down by someone who didn’t think I had worth in it. The discouragement was a tough hill to climb over. It was also hard not to compare myself to those that I basically looked up to in this world. As someone starting out that actually the WORST thing you can do to yourself because you are comparing YEARS of hard work to what you are just beginning, and it’s just not logical, and when think like that, it’s easy to want to give up and walk away no matter how well you’re doing. It’s okay to see others as inspiration and motivation, but never to compare and make yourself feel less than.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Flogirlfinds_?
Flogirlfinds_ is my business account on Instagram. There you can find me sharing all of my real-life finds and deals in regards to fashion, lifestyle, home decor, pet supplies, beauty, you name it. I often share reels and videos of my favorite products that I am finding and using giving people a glimpse of what they are potentially buying before they buy it. I am always sharing the best deals when it comes to clothing, home goods, anything!! My specialty is keeping up on the latest fashion trends, showing how to style different pieces of clothing, embracing new styles and brands. I help people search and find items that they are shopping for and help them put together and find outfits for different events and outings – pretty much an internet personal shopper! You can follow along and keep up with my finds or reach out to me personally, and we can work together to find a look that makes you feel YOUR BEST! I am pretty much an open book on there, and my intentions are to cultivate an open and safe space to share your love for shopping, saving. And just real life. I know sometimes influencers can get a bad reputation for “putting on a front” or living a facade for the internet, portraying a life that is not really what they live outside of the screen of the computer/cell phone. On my page, I really try to change that narrative by being as authentic as possible. I’m not a huge influencer with a million of followers, I still work a 9-5 job, I don’t live in a huge city, and I don’t take a lot of fancy trips. I am pretty literally your regular small-town girl who just likes to enjoy life, embrace creativity through style, and save a few dollars while doing it. Haha! I think that it what has made it easy to connect with so many people so quickly because we can relate to each other on personal levels, and that means so much to me. I may make a commission off of some posts that generate sales.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t know if it’s so much luck, more so just plain out determination, persistence, and motivation to keep going. I have a lot of people that are rooting for me and that are CONSTANTLY letting me know it and sharing me with their audiences as well, and that to me means more than they will ever know because of the impact that it has on a growing page. A gesture that to them is so small is HUGE to me. So, I guess you could say that I am lucky, extremely lucky, and blessed that I have so many people who support me and see something good in me and want to share that with the world also.
