Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaylin Zipf.
Hi Kaylin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Well, I have always enjoyed art for as long as I can remember. I was always drawing or painting and art was one of my favorite classes in school. I believe it was Christmas of 2018, my mom had asked me if I could paint her coworkers’ dogs for their gifts. I wasn’t very experienced in painting animals, but I said I would try it. So, she gave them their gifts, and some of them went to her and said they wanted other paintings done and that I should start selling these pet portraits. I started to think that was a pretty good idea, so that’s where it started. I started posting things on an Instagram I had made and it just grew since then. I would’ve never believed I would have my art in so many places in the world right now, but I am so thankful that my mom asked me to paint those dogs.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not. I feel like any business owner can say that there are struggles. It’s tough starting out because you have to do the work to grow. You can’t just sit back and think that your business will grow without putting in the work to do so. There’s just so much that goes into having a small business that I didn’t even think of when I started, but I enjoy it so much, and the struggles are all worth it if I can keep making people happy.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a watercolor artist. I mostly paint pet portraits and house portraits. I would say I am known for my pet portraits though. I am most proud of myself for just starting this adventure. It takes a lot to have the commitment and effort to start a business, and I am just so glad that I took that risk and did it. I am also proud of myself for sticking with it. I am going on my third year I believe and I don’t have any plans of stopping anytime soon. I would say what sets me apart from others is that I communicate with my customers like a real person. To me, it’s not about my benefits of them, it’s about theirs and what I can do for the. I always make sure to say thank you, I go out of my way to make sure that they get their paintings by the date they need them, and I always send them a picture of the painting before I mail it to make sure that it’s just how they want it. I truly appreciate every single customer, and I do everything I can to make sure they are satisfied.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I would say that the most important lesson I’ve learned along this journey is to just go for it. If there is something that you’ve dreamed of doing, do it. If you have a talent, use it for good. There are so many talented people out there who are afraid of doing something with their talent, or they’re scared they won’t be good enough. I’ve had those thoughts, but then I decided to just try it. No harm could come from it. If it doesn’t work out, then it doesn’t, but at least you tried. It has become such a big part of my life now. That’s the most important lesson I’ve learned, just go for it.
