Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacey Pavlin.
Hi Stacey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Growing up, I always loved color, fabrics, sewing, needlepoint, and fashion. As a young mother, I wanted my kids to have cozy and welcoming bedrooms that made them feel safe. As my oldest son Zachary left for college, I wanted him to take a piece of my heart and home to South Bend with him. Each year that he returned to college and as he eventually moved to New York City-that, desire kept returning to me. Less than a week after Zachary moved to New York City, our only daughter, Adeline, left for college. As I began to prepare for Adeline’s departure, I was very passionate about creating items for her that would make her feel like she was living at a “home away from home.” I began opening up closets, pulling the scissors out, gluing, cutting, and staying up all night to whip up what I would call a “makeshift” dorm room. As I kissed her goodbye and left her at college, I knew I was leaving her with a comfortable space that was safe, and inviting. Shortly after, I received a phone call from Adeline. She began to fill me in on all the exciting details of her new life and mentioned that her friends loved her headboard, bedding, and accessories. From that conversation, the desires of others, and the encouragement of my daughter-my inspiration began to launch this business. I spent many months planning, researching, and forming connections. As I launch the Addie Line, my hope is that all young women will be able to tea a “piece of home” with them as they start their college journey-transforming their “concrete shoebox” into a beautiful bedroom.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I feel it is crucial to recognize my right-hand woman, Pamela Freeland and Jessica Crane. They work behind the scenes to bring my ideas to life! My husband, Brian, patiently listens to me talk about fabrics, color, the new client that found me on social media, and the following pop-up.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I provide unique and customized limited-edition headboards, full-length bed skirts for lofted beds, one-of-a-kind duvets, accent pillows, and gorgeous accessories for dorm rooms, small space living, guest rooms, and second homes; my specialty is finding out what a person likes and creating a space symbolic of their personality.
I am most proud of the years I have dedicated to raising my three beautiful and accomplished children with the help of my husband, Brian finding the inner strength to reinvent myself and follow my dream with the launch of our SMP Addie Line products.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
The people of Cincinnati have been incredibly supportive. One of my favorite supporters was a grandfather. He stopped by a pop-up and could not wait to share the Addie Line with his family. Local Mariemont store owner of Jules&Bing allowed me to have several Thursday night pop-ups to share the Addie Line with the people of Mariemont. The Edge Apartment complex on the UC campus is hosting the Addie Line on August 17th when students move on campus. To say the people of Cincinnati have been anything less than supportive is an understatement.
