Today we’d like to introduce you to Alissa Geyer.
Hi Alissa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, I’m Alissa and I’m a hairstylist here in Cleveland. I’ve wanted to be a hairstylist since I was 4 years old; I thought it was the coolest thing ever to do hair and get paid for it!! I never imagined just how much I’d LOVE making people feel beautiful and more confident within themselves though. I went to beauty school fresh out of high school to make my dreams happen; unfortunately, my chronic illness spiraled during that time; I had to drop out and was practically bedridden for 5 years. But I never gave up on my dream; I constantly watched YouTube videos and took any and all education that a young student could until I could officially go back to school to get my degree. I finally graduated beauty school in 2019 and couldn’t wait for my career ahead. The week before my graduation, I found out I was a finalist for a prestigious hair award for my balayage… a dream come true. Little ole me, still a student, was a top 25 finalist out of 30,000 entries worldwide. I ended up going to the award/education weekend and learned from some of the top hairstylists in the industry, I was truly on cloud nine. I came home from the event and started my assisting job to continue striving and growing behind the chair, and just 7 months after assisting, I went out on my own and opened up my own studio salon… in the middle of the pandemic in Spring of 2020. It was a bold move but one I would never take back; it was the best thing I ever did, and I have been SO happy with the connections I’ve made with the wonderful women who sit in my chair every day! And just this year, my ultimate career dream of becoming a part of the Olaplex family came true! I couldn’t be happier with where I’m at in my career and I can’t wait for what else is to come.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Not at all. I’ve had a chronic illness since I was 4 years old, one that leaves me dizzy as my main symptom. It’s not fun or easy to navigate through life this way, but because I grew up dealing with it, I’ve learned to overcome it. It took over my life at the age of 11, and I was homeschooled my high school career because of it, however, my senior year I seemed to have outgrown it, or so we thought. I went to beauty school and was 3 months from graduating the program when it hit again… BIG this time. I was forced to drop out and focus on getting my health on track. It was really tough for me to come to terms with being so close to my lifelong dream and have it slip through my fingers. But I didn’t give up on keeping the information fresh and continued to learn everything I could, even using my sister as a guinea pig any chance I could. By the time I found a doctor who helped me live again, it was 5 years later, which in the state of Ohio means all my education hours zeroed out and I’d have to start school from scratch. But I didn’t let this deter me, I fought even harder for my dream, and when my health flared up yet again, I took it as an opportunity to learn how to work through the pain and symptoms, and I’m stronger because of that.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a hairstylist, and I specialize in enhancing your natural color through the art of Blonding and making you feel like the best version of yourself. Whether you’re a natural blonde, brunette, or redhead, I got you… dimensional lived-in color is my specialty, and you’ll leave feeling like YOU, just enhanced. I also help women discover their perfect hair care routine to help their hair THRIVE.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was and still am a very shy, kind, and quiet girl. You could always find me with a book in my hand, curled up with my puppy, and that hasn’t changed. I love to dance and sing; at a party 9x/10, you’ll find me on the dance floor. I was the same way as a kid, always putting on shows and entertaining anyone who would watch.
