Conversations with Prathiba Prabhakar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Prathiba Prabhakar.

Hi Prathiba, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all started when a friend asked me to help assist with a wedding. From that day forward I fell in love with the process of storytelling. I took my next paycheck (from my day job) and put it towards a starter camera which then lead me to make fun dance choreography videos with my college dance team friends. Then I had a couple that took a chance on me for their wedding day back in 2018 (my first wedding!!!) and since then I continue to grow and improve my passion of videography.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been a smooth road. My mains struggles started with having to constantly research on improving my gear and how to find a solution that best fits me. This industry is constantly evolving and this hobby doesn’t necessarily allow for a trial and error to the extent that other hobbies may allow. But for me, I had to find the best solution that worked both logistically and financially.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a wedding videographer. I create wedding highlight films for the couple and their families to look back on their special day. I believe my style of film-making is what sets me apart. I go about it in the sense of being a photo-journalist – being as less intrusive as possible in order to let the couple enjoy the special moments that come in the day and to document the raw emotions that come from my subjects. Almost like a fly on the wall.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
You do not always have to have fanciest equipment to be successful. Sometimes using what you have or using what works best for you is all you need to start. The rest will fall in place as you continue to learn and grow. I think that is what it means to be successful.
