Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaylea Annen & Dana Crago.
Kaylea & Dana, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Dana and I are both Ohio natives, and while we both attended Ohio University we didn’t meet until after we had both graduated and were living and working in Columbus.
Dana formerly worked as an intervention specialist in Westerville City Schools.
And I, Kaylea work as a lecturer in the School of Communication at The Ohio State University.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We launched in May 2020, which was basically at the height of the pandemic. We faced supply shortages, shipping delays, etc. but we were able to work together and figure things out.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
In early 2020, I approached Dana with a business idea– a monthly matching shirt subscription for moms and their Mini’s.
At the time we both had little girls, I had Hunter June “Juju” (age 5) & Palmer Jean (age 2) and Dana had Norah “Buggy” Marie (age 3). (Dana has since added to our crew with the addition of her son, Drew (7 Months).) We both found ourselves shopping for outfits for different occasions for our kids and when possible, we liked to match and coordinate but finding matching shirts that we liked wasn’t easy, thus, Juju Bug and Co. was born– a set of matching styles shipped to your door monthly.
I have design and e-commerce experience as my husband owns an e-commerce site, Custom Envy and Dana’s husband is co-owner of Capitol Roots Clothing company so she was familiar with the textiles and screen print industry. We got to work on our first several months of designs and got up and running. We aim for gender-neutral designs that work for the whole family, and we tailor our designs to coordinate with holidays and seasons. And we recently added a custom tee option, these are not a subscription product but rather a one-off that we hope customers can utilize to order custom shirts for their kids and families for birthdays, the first day of school, holidays, family reunions, milestones, special events, gifts and occasions or just every day and more… the possibilities with these are endless! We’ve pre-loaded tons of clip art and designs, as well as colors and font options, And many of our old Juju Bug designs can now be customized. And we are adding more every day. Customers can also upload their own logos, graphics, or photos to create something that is 100% their own.
