Community Highlights: Meet Monica Gabriel of M and Js OCD Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Gabriel.  

Hi Monica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Monica Gabriel and I’m the proud owner of M and Js OCD Services LLC. I’m a mother to 5 amazing children ranging from 16 to 8 years old (1 angel baby) and a wife to an awesome husband. (20+ years together, newly married) I’ve always been a strong, focused, dedicated, passionate, determined, hardworking, loving woman and give my all in every aspect of life. 

I’ve held many job titles over the years and have worked for a few cleaning companies before starting my own, however Mom is my favorite title. In 2018, I was doing small labor jobs for myself to stay afloat and working for a cleaning company part-time 3rd shift. In September 2018, I had a major medical scare when my right lung collapsed while working for a cleaning company and I almost died. While in the hospital, another scare occurred from the lung collapsing cause the tubes were running incorrectly. I spent 2 weeks in the hospital. 

The company kept calling and wanting me back to work asap. After a lot of thought I decided if I’m going to end up dying working, I’m gonna do it for myself and my kids instead of a large corporation that does not care about me. After my hospitalization, I put in my two week’s notice and began self-promoting my cleaning work on social media. At first, work was slow but I stayed persistent. 

In 2019, a contractor was in need of a cleaner and selected me to do the job. My work speaks for itself. We worked on numerous jobs together through 2020 but the pandemic kept halting things. While working with the contractor, I was also self-promoting my services and building clientele as well. 

Fast forward to 2022, I work for numerous realtors and contractors throughout the Columbus area cleaning properties for listings for sale and rental properties as needed. 

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. Life isn’t easy, life is what we make it. Rough roads lead to beautiful destinations. On this road called life, we have to make the best of it. I’m along for the ride. The business was very slow when first starting out. Self-promoting and word of mouth takes time. 

Then covid hit, so materials were on hold for contractors which pushed jobs behind schedule. As a residential cleaner people were not wanting anyone in their homes etc. so business all-around became slow and halted due to covid at times. It has slowly increased back up. 

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Offers cleaning services to residential, realtors, contractors, and business/commercial. This is a one-woman show with the help of my children, husband, and family. We are currently looking into hiring as we are growing daily. 

I build personal relationships with all my clients cause when you’re here you’re family ❤️ I do all the social media advertising and promoting on all platforms. 

We are looking to keep growing and expanding in this industry as there are many roles.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My children and husband. They are my life. I love being a mother and wife. There is no greater feeling than seeing them smile and be genuinely happy. Everything I do, I do for them.
