Meet Kyle Kidd

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Kidd.

Hi Kyle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started singing in the church and theatre, supported by family members who were also in the arts. I found out going through grade school that performing was my passion and soon after went on to study vocal performance with a focus on musical theatre.

Following my studies, I wanted to more fully explore my creativity by traveling, collaborating with others, and pursuing national vocal competitions such as American Idol.

After a few years of this independence, I decided to put more effort into community work and social services. This informed the way I show up as an artist, fueling my emphasis on representation and freedom.

In 2016, I joined the Cleveland-based band Mourning [A] BLKstar. Over the years, this collective has received national and international acclaim, most recently becoming the recipient of the Cleveland Arts Prize.

Additionally, I travel internationally with collaborators in film, opera, and performance art. As a solo artist, I am in the process of releasing my premiere album with American Dreams Records, slated to drop on August 5th.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I think there are very few professional artists who would describe their road as smooth and I am no exception.

As a Black Queer Androgynous human existing in a culture that does not prioritize my wellness or artistry, the bumps on this road have been ample.

It would take a novel to list the struggles; so I will say that they motivate me to be my full self and live my truth.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I sing, create, and vision, specializing in future-building and innovative experiences. I’m known for my massive vocal range, fashion, and stage presence. I’m proud of everything I put my spirit into. There is no one like me.

We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking?
There is no true gain without risk. Each day we wake up, we take a risk. I’m willing to risk it all for my seat at the table and the success of my brand.

As a person existing with my identity, there is no choice but to risk. My living is radical, my living is risky, and my living is full.
