Hidden Gems: Meet Jasma Love of Jazzy Cakez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasma Love.  

Hi Jasma, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Hi, my name is Jasma Love and I am the proud owner of Jazzy Cakez, a multi-generational home-based bakery where we add jazz to all things sweet. We pride ourselves on good quality, old-fashioned cake. Jazzy Cakez specializes in cakes, cupcakes, and dessert tables for all occasions. Jazzy Cakez is known for its Banana Pudding, Peach Cobbler, and Lemon Pound Cake. I knew as a little girl who loved spending time with both my grandma and aunt in the kitchen that I would grow up to be a successful business owner and operator of Jazzy Cakez. I have over 25 years of baking experience. Most of that time it was just for fun because that is exactly it is to be…fun! It is my dream to one day combine my love for teaching and baking into yet another successful business. I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
My journey has been an adventurous one. I went from teaching elementary school full time to baking full time. I will say while teaching brought me a tremendous amount of joy baking brought me pure satisfaction. The road to full-time baking and cake decorating wasn’t easy but it was achievable. My biggest struggle along the way was fear and self-doubt, not sure if I was good enough and often wondering what sense did it make to leave my full-time teaching career to bake a cake. Then there was that whole managing or in my case mismanaging of funds and time. My gosh, I was a mess. Just when I thought I might have figured things out boom Covid/the pandemic hits. Even though this was a rough time financially for my business, it was the perfect time for me to enhance my skills. I was able to play with different recipes, practice a variety of decorating techniques and brush up on my social media skills. 

We’ve been impressed with Jazzy Cakez, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Jazzy Cakez is owned and operated by a multi-generational, female black power couple – Me and my daughter! This Down-Home, Delicious, Dessert business has been around for almost 5 years, and we are full cream ahead! We are based right here in Cleveland, so it does not get any more local than that! You should support Jazzy Cakez not just because I am your neighbor but because You do not have to go with your typical sheet cake you’d find at a larger chain retailer. You can let your imagination run wild, and we will customize your dream dessert and oftentimes deliver it right to your door or event. Jazzy Cakez specializes in cakes, cupcakes, and dessert tables for all occasions. Jazzy Cakez is known for its Banana Pudding, Peach Cobbler, and Lemon Pound Cake. Jazzy Cakez is different from other bakeries because we are semi-mobile. We have traveled throughout the United States providing sweet treats. We are most proud of our ability to create a variety of sweet treats that not only look amazing but taste even better.
