Hidden Gems: Meet Evetta Applewhite of ERA Small Business Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Evetta Applewhite.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In March of 2020, I lost my job at the beginning of COVID. Myself and several others were told to log into a call at 11:00 a.m., and when we did, we were told that we were being laid off as of today. Although this was a shock, I quickly realized that I no longer had to log into a computer the following Monday and had no job! During this time, I was faced with feeling rejected, and wondering what was next as far as my next career move. However, due to the pandemic and assistance I was able to receive, everything worked out in my favor. While I was out of work, I was able to payoff a lot of debt, and create a small business based on what I learned from my previous positions to assist other small businesses, and I obtained my real estate license in the process.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In the beginning, it was hard because along with isolation, I was forced to deal with the loss of my mother in 2017 and depression. However, I knew I could not give up on myself or my child so I pushed through to be where I am now. Through it all, I learned how to create boundaries and know when to advocate for myself when I feel like the scale is becoming unbalanced.

As you know, we’re big fans of ERA Small Business Services. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I specialize in providing contractual organizational, process and procedures, and administrative support services to small businesses with a focus on restaurants, and small offices.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Being able to think outside the box, being a problem solver, and a quick study is very important to my success.
