Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer DeMarco.
Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I went to undergrad at Ohio University where I got my bachelor’s in Nursing. I then accepted my first Nursing position at MetroHealth main campus, a level I trauma center in Cleveland, Ohio. I worked in the Operating room from 2013-2019. I absolutely loved my experience there. I worked alongside a great team, made great friends, and helped a lot of people. While working there, I subbed in the plastic surgery room a lot. I found that my passion was there. I loved the immediate gratification and also enhancing self-esteem. Metro did a lot of other things other than cosmetic surgery, it included things like skin grafts, resections after trauma injuries, basically building from the bottom up. I always knew I wanted to go to grad school to get my Master’s and become a Nurse Practitioner. I enrolled at chamberlain college in 2016, I got pregnant and had my first baby in 2015, I was very slowly progressing through my classes. I transferred after two classes at Chamberlain to Case Western Reserve, where I finished my family nurse practitioner degree in 2019. I gave birth to my second child in 2017. After I gave birth to my second baby I dove deep into the accelerated program where I went PRN (as needed) at Metro and did full-time school.
After I finished my degree in January 2019, I was interviewing for two positions- I was interviewing at a dermatology clinic and an Integrative Medicine dept.
Covid came out in March of 2019, so the derm clinic Had to take back my offer and I happily accepted a position at Lake Health Integrative medicine.
I have worked in this office for 2 years where I have practiced primary care, but also learned an abundance on natural/homeopathic medicine/traditional Chinese medicine.
I got pregnant again in Feb 2020, and I received my certification for injectables in June of 2021. I wanted to get my certification and begin practicing on my own time outside of my full-time job.
With three children I wanted to take one day off so I could be home with them, I took of Fridays. In October 2020 I started an LLC named, JLUXE aesthetics and operated out of my basement on people I was close to. When starting my own business, I had no idea the amount of work and legal documents that had to be done. I spent months making sure everything was done that needed to be done.
I was doing concierge services for the first few months having clients coming in and out all of the time. In December of 2022, I rented a space in Mentor and made it my own.
I operate out of JLUXE on Fridays and it has been a joy providing services to those who want to feel better about themselves or enhance whatever is perfect on them already! I offer injectables (botox\dysport), dermal filler in mid-face, lower face, and lips, microneedling, medical-grade skincare (ZO. Zen Obagi line), and chemical peels.
It’s been very exciting to start my own business, it has grown organically and I can’t wait to see what the future brings. I wanted to be a Nurse Practitioner so I can bring joy into people’s lives, to help people. Whether that be to help them manage their medications and chronic illnesses or doing elective procedures to make people feel beautiful in their own skin.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There were of course ups and downs. I am a mother of three young children so the obstacle of being gone 40-50 hours a week is daunting.
Establishing the LLC was no easy task, I had to get an overseeing physician, malpractice insurance, tax ID information. Establishing with companies to receive products, getting certified and continuing education is CONSTANT.
Overall, though, the experience has been great. Because I love my full-time job as a primary care, I felt no need to rush to open JLUXE. It was a slow process and I really enjoy it so just knowing that I didn’t have to rush into it eased a lot of the stress. In the beginning, it was a lot of money that we had to put down to start it, that was stressful as well. My clientele continues to grow and everyone has been happy with my services thus far, so continuing to be able to focus on my clients/patients, I hope will continue to grow my practice.
We’ve been impressed with JLUXE Aesthetics, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business organization is a woman-owned business run by myself. Started from the ground up. I offer aesthetic treatments, such as injectables (botox/dysport), dermal fillers, chemical peels, medical-grade skincare. In the future would like to bring in laser products, plasma pens, hydrafacial machine.
I use a variety of heavily researched and evidence-based products and equipment that delivers quality results to my clients.
I set myself apart from others because my clients have one in one contact with me. They can contact me with concerns or questions and directly be connected with me.
I am most proud that I have established 75 clients on my own, we have no loans out on the business and my husband and I have successfully done this on our own. I look forward to the growth and opportunity that JLUXE brings to myself and others.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I’ve had a lot of good luck in my life, but most of my/our success is with my faith in God and hard work. I have worked so very hard to get where I am now. My husband and family have been such amazing supporters and I couldn’t have done it without them.
