Meet Prithee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Prithee. They share their story with us below:

Prithee started as a live band consisting of Berdt Barrios on guitar/vocals writing the songs, Dante Foley on drums, and Kelly Flynn on bass/vocals. After a few shows the group dissolved and some time passed…things changed… Berdt made an album of songs he had written. Now…Prithee is a collaborative project made from the album “TwoWonSicks” by Berdt Barrios, with friends Jonathan Richey (from Audible Jones & Melladramatics) on drums, and Kelly Flynn on harmony vocals. It was recorded by the late Bill DeMarco and mixed by Tuck Mindrum. During the making of the album, Berdt asked his friend Todd Marshall (SunBurnSun, Apostle Jones, Melladramatics) to join on bass. After some time doing other projects, playing at some open mics, we found Julian Palombi (the Woolly Bushmen) and started to move forward with the next stage in our journey as Prithee. We dropped our second single “Carnival” shortly after he joined our family. We are currently working on the video for our last single and on finishing our second full-length album.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road of life is that of ups and downs. Music is just an extension of that. We play music and we have a good time, we get on stage with each other and we experience a catharsis that is hard to capture in other places. But there are struggles, and they are trying to independently finance recording records, producing music videos, manufacturing merchandise, promotion, etc… it can be a lot sometimes, but it’s a struggle worth struggling for.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are Prithee. We play high-energy melodic punk rock music. We are a collaborative effort wherein every member has a say in what we produce. We strive to work with other artists and have them become a part of our family, their voice being equal to ours. We specialize in high-energy, quirky, fun shows that differ from one to the next. Powerful drums, moving bass, chugging guitars and odd, playful vocals are what define Prithee’s sound and their ability to do whatever they want sets them apart from others.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
If I have any advice to give it’s this…show up. Get to your shows early, talk to other bands, talk to the sound person, talk to the door person, talk to as many people in the scene as you can. There are people who are great at things that you struggle with, and vice-versa. Help each other. Go to open mics and jam with people you’ve never met. Play music you’ve never played and didn’t think you would play. Play outside your sandbox.
