Conversations with Alicia Henderson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Henderson. 

Hi Alicia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Alicia Henderson. I currently own and operate Poppin With Alicia, my balloon decorating business. I officially started the business in March 2022. However, I have been decorating and playing around with balloon designs for about 3 years. I would decorate parties for my children and family members, and everyone would say “how nice” everything looked. I decided in January 2022, after decorating a party for my niece and sister, that I would move forward with creating a balloon business. Of course, it took a lot of pushing from family and friends because I was not sure I was good enough to do it mainstream. 

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some obstacles have been: 1) Balloon shortages on certain colors; 2) Transporting balloons to the event location can be tricky with balloons being inflated, they take up so much space and possibly some popping; 3) Depending on the weather, (wind, rain, and direct sunlight) balloons can be tricky outdoors. The road to success has not always been smooth but, the bumps build character! 

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am currently a full-time Cardiac Sonographer. I conduct ultrasounds on adult hearts. I have been in this field for 9 years and I absolutely love it! I am most proud of stepping out of my comfort zone to start a small business. Doing balloons make me so happy. It’s like I get in a zone and it relaxes me. What sets me apart is “ME.” I am a genuine person. I am prompt. I love to make people happy. 

What does success mean to you?
To me, success is defined by, knowing I completed the task I was asked to do and my clients being pleased with the work I did.
