Today we’d like to introduce you to Chanel Green. She shares their story with us below:
GrindSzn is a sports-based company that values the betterment of people. Founded by owner/CEO Chanel Green, who had a vision to make the same city that she grew up in a better place by using sports in efforts to give back. Putting this plan into action, Chanel Green ran her first all-girls skills camp summer 2018. Our CEO and head trainer has a significant amount of experience, as a player and coach. She was a part of the HD Woodson powerhouse basketball team in Washington, D.C., who won 6 championships during her tenure. After high school, she received a full scholarship to play Division I basketball, where she contributed to winning a collegiate championship as well. During graduate school, she became a local high school head coach with hopes to eventually coach at the Division I level in which she played. Soon after Coach Green received her first opportunity to coach at the collegiate level and has now coached at all three Divisions, I, II, and III. She is currently coaching at Notre Dame College.
GrindSzn was created to make a positive impact and give back to the city of Washington D.C. but now prides itself on impacting all cities across the country. We are a home to all athletes and will continue to teach and grow athletes everywhere.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think there are always struggles in business, especially when starting your own! When I officially started GrindSzn I had little to no money to start a thriving business. I decided to get a part-time job to earn enough money to start the business. I eventually raised enough cash to purchase all products and necessities for GrindSzn. Throughout this process, I’ve learned a lot about business, patience, and dedication. Just like the name of the company, GrindSzn, it never ends, so I am continually learning and growing every day. Our biggest feat nowadays is figuring out the best marketing strategies that will attract our target audience. I know we have a great brand, I just want everyone else to get the experience as well!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Here at GrindSzn our mission is to strive to exhibit positive change and inspire athletes, pushing them to their fullest potential. Our vision is to bring athletes together through sports, leadership, and knowledge. We are impacting athletes throughout the world by offering diverse avenues to push athletes to their fullest potential. This includes an umbrella of sports, activities, fashion, and community-based projects that will create positive change.
We specialize in one on one, group, and team basketball training, as well as leadership skills and apparel. Looking to the future, GrindSzn will become a hub for all current and previous athletes of all sports, ultimately their home away from home. What does that look like? A state-of-the-art facility that will welcome athletes and their families from all over, giving them an opportunity to enhance their game, host local tournaments, learn life skills, build within their community and grow!
Within building in our community, we will also have frequent volunteer activities for our athletes to get involved. We also host local tournaments like 3 on 3, 5 on 5, etc. to bring people together for friendly competition.
I am most proud of the athletes we train and how much they grow. Our young people come and train hard every session, putting their best foot forward. In return, we do the same for them. We are a growing business and we appreciate the trust that each athlete gives us. We will continue to instill our core values in everyone that is a part of our GrindSzn family; leadership, accountability, quality, trust, integrity, hard work, and consistent Improvement.
Every aspect above is what sets us apart from others. We’ve built a growing brand that will make a positive impact on many people from so many different places.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I would say my high school coaches from HD Woodson in Washington DC have made a huge impact on my life! They’ve done such an incredible job of getting a bunch of inner-city girls ready for life as an athlete, life after athletics, being young black women in America, and just all-around good people. They’ve poured so much into us and I just want to do the same for kids from all walks of life. I am truly inspired by how they nurtured us into who we are today. Coach Frank and Coach Anglin are heroes!
Another person that plays a huge role in GrindSzn’s success is my fiancé Aireka Wright, I’ve learned so much from her. She is our biggest cheerleader! She has an extremely successful business based out of the Akron/Tallmadge area called Impact Sports Academy and she’s taught me so much from the business side of things, marketing, and leadership. As well as purchasing each and every product that is put out on our apparel side! I couldn’t do it without her constant encouragement and wisdom.
