Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Ayoub.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was a young single teen mom & on my own. I had never given much thought on what I wanted to be when I grew up. I knew I needed a career, not just a job. I saw an ad for a CNA position at a nursing home that included the certification class, it was perfect. I spent the next few years in working in nursing homes. This will always be hands down my best life experience. I learned so much about life & love for others. I always wanted more! I soon realized I needed 2 jobs. I worked 6-2 at a nursing home and 2-6 at a daycare for years. When my daughter started Pre-K, I decided I needed a 9-5 job to spend more time with her. I spent the next 18 years as an insurance agent. As my daughter started getting older, I started realizing that I had the perfect opportunity to reinvent myself. I started taking classes while working full time. I soon had my lash and teeth whitening certifications & slowly started working on my clientele. About 6 months later I ended up waking out of my insurance job in 2019. I remember calling my daughter freaking out like what did I just do?, the job had me so stressed and started to affect my mental health, she was like we have this momma! Everything will be ok, I’ve got you! And she did! She started paying half of everything! So, I could take some time to figure out what I wanted to do exactly. I started working at a local sports bar. I took this time to start building up my clientele with the girls from work. Then COVID hit. My daughter was ready to move out so I decided to move back to Ohio. This was a hard decision to leave my daughter, but I had to look at the opportunity differently. I didn’t have any savings or retirement & the last thing I would want is to put my daughter in a situation of having to take care of me at an old age because I didn’t prepare properly. I left everything I owed to my daughter packed up the Necessities & the dogs & moved back to Ohio. My stepdaughter let me rent a space in her salon for a couple of months, to see what I could do before taking a full-time job as an insurance agent again or going back into nursing homes. I really wanted to do something that made people happy! & Beauty makes people happy! I wanted it to work so bad. It’s crazy to think it took me about 3 weeks to realize this is really working & was running with it! I opened my own salon February 8th, 2021. I’ve now been in business a year, I expanded in December 2021 opening up a new street front location where I’m renting out affordable space to other beauty professionals so they can afford to chase their dreams as well. I’m amazed and so thankful of my life journey and where it has lead me. I couldn’t think of anything else in the world I’d rather be doing other than making people happy every day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It actually hasn’t been too bad. I did learn quickly that I needed a business lady, to make sure everything is done correctly as far as inspections, licensing, and permits. Running your own business, you have to wear a lot of hats, and when it’s needed it’s ok to outsource if needed.
