Meet Shannon Wahl

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Wahl.

Hi Shannon, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Shannon Wahl, a wife to Scot Wahl and mom to Henry (4) and Parker (6 months) born and raised in Cleveland, OH. I am just your everyday mama, living and breathing #momlife while trying to maintain my own identity. After having my son Henry I was looking for a creative outlet and a way to connect with other women in a similar chapter of their lives. I started blogging and working with brands through my social media channels and it quickly gave me the creativity I needed. I loved connecting with other mothers and women that were going through similar seasons of life. I focus on family and lifestyle showing the good, the bad, and the ugly keeping it honest and real.

Throughout blogging and working in social media, I’ve been able to meet some incredible people that I now call friends. After getting laid off from my full-time job in 2020 due to the pandemic, I took this from a hobby to a small business to earn extra income for our family. It has also led me to begin as a social media manager for clients. Something that has given me flexibility in my day and allowed me to stay at home with my kids. Now I get to stay at home with my two kids, Henry (4) and Parker (5 months) while doing what I love!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have certainly been several struggles in my journey! Being in social media it’s easy to fall for the comparison trap or feel like you aren’t good enough. In Addition, work isn’t always guaranteed. Seeking out brands that fit with my lifestyle and beliefs is so important and I would never want to work with a brand that doesn’t fit me and my family.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Previous to working in social media I worked in liquor sales for eight years, before that I worked in the service industry for 10+. I think from the years of working in the service industry and sales, I’ve learned that being my authentic self is what sets me apart. There are so many people in this industry that try to keep up with what everyone else is doing, but I’ve always had my most proud moments from just being my authentic self. Sharing my successes along with my failures, I am able to connect to others that may be walking in similar shoes.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
The social media industry is full of individuals that can help you on your journey! What has worked best for me is following others that I look up to or admire and reach out to them. Ask them to meet for coffee or hop on a phone call. It can seem scary at first but putting yourself out there and making connections will help you grow immensely. Also on that note, find any and every networking event you can. Making personal connections in person goes a long way.
