Conversations with Stafford Lipscomb II

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stafford Lipscomb II.

Stafford, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was not always a chef, the decision to go to college and define the path my now legacy follows were brought upon by having children. I graduated from culinary school with the intention of starting my own restaurant, but I had to learn how 1st. I worked at the best restaurants in Columbus from 2003 to 2016 at which time I opened my own restaurant. No, it was not planned and the perfect time is never!

Why sandwiches?

If I open a soul food restaurant,

Then I must sell soul food.

If I open an Italian or Chinese restaurant, I’d have to sell Italian or Chinese food.

But if I open a sandwich shop, I can put anything between two pieces of bread!

How did we get here?

Hard work!

It started with just me, 1 man and 2 sauté pans!

Now I have my 2 sons’, the sky is the limit, and as usual…

Stop by the shop #eatasandwich! I know you’re hungry.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Sheeeeeesh! I’ve got no complaints, but the road to success is not an easy road.

3-robberies

2- break-ins

1- accountant

The pandemic did not help any, cutting business by almost 50%

The lessons we learn in business not only make us better, but they also sharpen the knives in your toolbox of experience.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Well, I’m a chef born, raised in PGH, PA. where I also graduated from culinary school in 2003. We specialize in gourmet sandwiches and catered events at our location!

I am proud that my children had a better childhood than I did.

I am a grandfather and I see my children every day.

I am Married and she loves me even after 10 years.

I am a little old school, serious about my food including everything necessary to run my business.

I am set apart by one thing…

I am Lipscomb and I mean what I say.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I love movies. I have seen almost all of them!
