Life & Work with Jonas Garvin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonas Garvin. 

Hi Jonas, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story can be a long one, so I’ll try to keep it short and sweet! I was born in the small city of Rockford, IL outside of Chicago. GO BEARS AND GO CUBS! We moved away from Rockford when I was only nine years old, and started what would become a theme in my life, MOVING. I have lived all over the country. From New Jersey to North Carolina to Arizona to Minnesota to Colorado and everywhere in between! Being the new guy in town all the time, I realized at a very young age that being funny comes in very handy! Not only will it help you make new friends, but people have less of tendency to want to kick your ass if they are laughing! All the moving around, meeting new people, not to mention having pretty much-having job on the planet at one time or another, would eventually lead me to where I am today. A standup comedian living in Los Angeles!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The obstacles and challenges in the comedy world today are very different than they were when I started in the early 2000s. It used to be, you wrote, performed, worked hard, and paid your dues. Now, in addition to competing (for lack of better word) with other comedians, we have to compete with whatever social media flavor of the month idiot that gets a million “likes” for eating detergent or slamming his genitals with a ball-peen hammer. It’s tough. Because I hate the taste of detergent and I don’t own a ball-peen hammer.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Essential Qualities? Well, besides the normal comedian qualities like a great sense of humor and a gift of gab, I also like candlelit dinners, long walks on the beach, and I’m not afraid to be held. Oh, and my mom says I’m a real catch!
