Rising Stars: Meet Carlisha Mullins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlisha Mullins.

Carlisha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Growing up, I had 3 brothers, all had hair I quickly became a popular braider. Always been a side hustle Until 2016. I juggled working a fulltime job, being a full time mother to two kids and also going to school and doing hair in a shop. My dreams were bigger than just working a regular 9-5 to get me through life. Before even finishing hair school I opened my own hair salon. This salon taught me a lot, made me grow, learned a lot of things. 2019 I lost my brother to suicide, I was lost, hurt, mad and decided to close my shop down. Two years later I decided It was time for me to open up another salon, I know my brother wouldn’t have wanted me to just keep one closed. So here I am today, with another shop and a great team of entrepreneurs. We are all destined for greatness.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nope. On this journey through life, there will always be bumps in the road. Losing my brother to suicide, falling into a depression, opening a new salon years later and dealing with issues as far as electrical, plumbing, and finding the right people to work with.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in locs. It’s all I do, it’s what I love. I’m known for this and fast I do it, I’m most proud of the team we are inside the salon. We are young, black entrepreneurs on a mission. I’m proud that my salon allows this to happen. It’s rare to find a salon in Columbus that has a team supporting one another, motivating each other and teaching each other about different aspects of life.
