Exploring Life & Business with Miriam Hodesh of The Columns

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miriam Hodesh.

Hi Miriam, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Wow! What a question…..

Soooooo…..I live in Mount Lookout with my husband Jake and our two girls. I grew up in Clifton, and Jake lived in Wyoming; and after spending 10 years working in New Orleans, Washington DC, Boston and Savannah, we moved back to Cincinnati and started to renovate commercial property. I love Findlay Market, and when a building became available for purchase at the market we jumped at the chance to be part of the Findlay community. After talking to many of the market vendors I realized they all wanted something that was missing – a venue for visitors to enjoy a Cincinnati gem and be able to meet, mingle or get married at the market!

I have loved the transformational work of creating The Columns. I see it in people’s eyes when they walk past the venue and stop. They have probably walked along the street a thousand times and never gave the building much thought until this renovation made the space pop.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?

Well….I would describe having blue prints for a road, then reworking it 100 times to build the road and then driving on the road with a pot hole here and there. 🙂

The construction/renovation world is all about staying flexible.

Struggles included pandemic, permitting and people….

My husband and I are “the glass is half full” kind of people….we try and always keep it positive….but with that said there are ALWAYS ALWAYS hiccups, issues, challenges and obstacles. I think everyone realizes this but it is the people who can have a positive outlook, and perhaps add some humor and good relationships with people that make the work flow easier.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Columns?
Our event space is unique because we are a super bright, modern space located at Findlay Market. We are surrounded by dozens of chef’s, caterers and bakers. We like to inform clients about all the creative culinary skills in a two-block radius. We are open to clients using the caterer of their choice!

We can hold up to 150 guests throughout the building. A seated event of 50-75 is our sweet spot. Rehearsal dinners, corporate workshops, private dinners, intimate weddings and launch parties are all part of the language we speak.

We can serve smaller events on our second floor which include our roof deck. If you want to bring your team together for a special lunch, tour the market and then come back to knock out some work we want to meet.

What are your plans for the future?
We are really excited to work with clients who have innovative ideas! We are excited for clients to set up a tour, meet with us and plan an event that comes to life and exceeds their expectations.
