Meet Tempestt Kelly of Cleaning CLE

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tempestt Kelly.

Hi Tempestt, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In December 2016, I had officially resigned from my career with the federal government and moved to Cleveland, Ohio from Portsmouth, Virginia. This sudden change shook everyone close to me at the time, but should not have as I had always said I wanted more than what my stable career and comfortable hometown could offer me.

Shortly after relocating to Cleveland, I began working for Cuyahoga County Children and Family Services as a social worker. This job gave me the satisfaction of helping children and families in need while also providing a steady income but also became the most demanding job I had ever held. When the stress of the job on top of being a new mom and wife miles away from my family proved too much, I put in my two weeks notice.

Weeks after leaving Children and Family Services, I purchased my first investment property from a sheriff’s auction. Not long after that, I found out I was pregnant with my second child. When I was 9 months pregnant, I became restless and bored from no consistent work throughout the year. On a whim, I decided to take my nesting energy and try my hand at helping someone else who may need help cleaning. I took my first ever client two weeks before I delivered my son!

After recovering from the birth of my son, I was ready to get back to work. My next few clients were local investors looking to get their properties ready to sell or rent out. I eventually connected with people looking to have their homes cleaned regularly.

Over the past several years, I have hired several people and continued to grow from strictly residential to commercial cleaning. Finding my way in the this business has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have had outside of watching my family grow.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This road has been far from smooth. I truly believe the hardest part of growing a business is finding the right people to help develop your vision.

I have had cleaners not show up, cleaners take customers from me, cleaners damage and/or break things and at this point those are little things.

I have also had instances where customers have disputed charges. This is one of the worst cases because cleaners still have to be paid.

I’m sure I’m forgetting something but the overall point is that every struggle had made me better and stronger. Though there have been times when I’ve wanted to quit, I haven’t and I think that speaks volumes.
