Life & Work with Ryan Mundy of Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Mundy.

Ryan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
With what started as just wanting to play guitar around a campfire at some point in my life, turned into buying a guitar from my cousin at 19 (later start than most). Self taught via YouTube went quickly from open mics around Columbus to catching the music bug. This sparked a trip to Nashville in 2017 with my Dad that would turn into a new-found dream of wanting to perform for crowds and write songs. My Dad always said “You gotta go to Nashville if you want to do it for real”. So that’s exactly what we did. Like anything it takes time, effort and a lot of work but once I put my foot on the peal I never stopped. From playing all over Ohio to writers rounds in Nashville frequently, self-booking, lots of emails and grinding landed me my biggest year in 2019 as an independent artist performing at The Ohio State Fair, Country Concert (OHIO) and opening for Lonestar. But, as most of the world did when covid hit in 2020, it snuffed a lot of momentum. Trying to get back rolling again, had one of the toughest years in 2021 when I lost my dad. I knew I had to keep it going for him since we started it all in 2017 in Nashville. Continued to write, record and perform songs, putting out social media content and music videos leading to 2023 where it started to start moving again. Got to travel performing in cities like Chicago, out to Missouri, Iowa, South Carolina, Georgia and more. Since then i’ve been able to release a ton of great songs and music videos and directly opened and shared the stage with Major acts such as Craig Morgan, LOCASH, Austin Snell, all the way to as of last year opening for Russell Dickerson on the RussellMania Tour, Justin Moore, Randy Houser, Craig Campbell and got to be a part of opening Jelly Roll’s Bar GoodNight Nashville with my band performing at both grand openings including performing 6 songs with Jelly Roll and 2 with Warner Chapel’s Redferrin. Along, with performing multiple times a month on Broadway in Nashville since 2022 at places like Tootsies, HonkyTonk Central, Kid Rock’s, Luke Bryan’s, Jason Aldean’s, Tequila Cowboy, HardRock Cafe, Riley Green’s, Jelly Roll’s Loser’s, and over 50x in Vegas in the last 8 months. Continuing to share my music, fun shows and live out a blessing of a dream! In 2024 I played over 130 shows and I remember saying that I don’t think I want to try for anymore. Yet here I am in 2026 and i’m just short of 100 by the time June will be over. So we will see if i break my own record, unintentionally.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

Lost my only brother last April to a car crash

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Happy to say that I’m approaching year 3 of doing music completely full time. I was able to do it for 9 months a few years ago that allowed me to tase what it would be like but wasn’t in the right financial situation and wasn’t making enough to be able to make it work. I had to go back to a corporate office job for 9 months until I got enough money and shows book to be able to go back again. But was able to put the effort and work in to make it happen.

My whole life I’ve worked multiple jobs at a time from corporate warehouse jobs to cutting grass to painting high school running tracks which was a lot of fun too so taking on the task of music and doing this full time was seamless to be able to work for myself on something I’m passionate about and love!

2024- Won Song of the Year (“ON YOU”) for a solo write songs at The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville via Josie Music Awards, Also have 17 nominations to date since 2022 with The Josie Music Awards at The Grand Ole Opry
– Presented The Emerging Leader Award via Clark State College in Springfield, OH

I’m most proud of just being able to chase this dream and to be able to make my family, friends and those who know me proud. I want to continue to inspire kids that if you have a dream you can wake up one day and chase it and make it a reality!

What’s next?
To continue grinding, providing, and working toward doing the best I can. I have a ton of songs and continue to write many songs with some great friends in Nashville monthly and I’m excited to share these with the world in the future. As well as continue to tour and play shows for great folks out there. We’ve met so many friends/fans out there from all over that always ask when we are coming back to their area. And there’s a few states I haven’t been to yet or played in that I would love to check-off my board. There’s no better feeling that organically meeting people at shows you put on and becoming friends. Also hoping to get the rest of my band on a full-time schedule. My bass player Austin was able to quit his banking job last year to tour around with me full time and play shows, so I would love to grow enough to be able to have my drummer do the same thing! My 2 guitar players are also already doing it full-time.
