Today we’d like to introduce you to Cortney Clark.

Hi Cortney, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Since I was little, I have always been creative. I started painting my nails with my best friend at age 9. My grandma told me that if I stopped biting my nails, she would take me to the salon for a manicure. Little did I know that would spark my future career.

In high school, I was always trying different designs and nail art on my friends. After graduation, I started working in retail and then landed a job at a bank. I thought that would be my career.

A local nail technician came into the bank all the time and complimented my nails. One day, she asked where I got them done. I told her that I did them myself and liked to experiment with different nail art designs. That conversation led to the realization that I could go to school, become a nail technician, and turn my passion for nails into a career.

Twelve years ago, I earned my license and began my new career. In 2016, I was named 2nd Runner-Up in the cover contest for Nails Magazine. My artwork was the only set done on natural nails to make it into the Top 12. In 2019, my work was featured by Good Morning America for a set of Pride nails I created. I never would have dreamed that my work would be featured anywhere.

I built my clientele while working at two salons before I was fortunate enough to start my own business. Today, I have a private studio in Mentor, OH where my clients can relax, unwind, and enjoy being pampered.

I specialize in natural nails. My main focus is maintaining the integrity and health of your beautiful nails. I love showing my clients that they can enjoy the latest trends without the need for additional enhancements.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest challenge I’ve faced in my career was opening my own salon space. From finding the perfect location to making sure everything was compliant with State Board regulations, there were plenty of challenges along the way. Like any career in the beauty industry, there were times when I had to push through self-doubt, financial stress, and the pressure of building my business. The uncertainty of owning my own business was also intimidating. It was just me, figuring everything out on my own.

Thanks to the support of my amazing clients, I’ve been able to grow and sustain my business for over four years. Looking back, those challenges helped shape me into the business owner and nail technician I am today. They taught me resilience, confidence, and the importance of believing in myself even when things felt uncertain.

I am forever grateful for the wonderful clients who have supported me throughout the years and for every opportunity that has come my way.
