Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Weidle.
Hi Megan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up I was inspired by two people: Jane goodall and Steve Irwin. With my intense love of nature and animals I was specifically drawn to them and the work they did. This got me into national geographic and the world wildlife fund at the ripe age of 7 years old. With this intense love of the world’s natural land and wildlife seeing the world and documenting it while it’s still around became my life goal. This passion for traveling and animals persisted and grew and I began solo traveling globally when I turned 18. Throughout college I traveled to about 15 countries solo and photo documented everywhere I went and during my travels I met with many other photographers and magazine publishers to shoot with and tell my story. After I graduated university it was full stream ahead as I moved to China immediately and became a well known photographer, model and actor there. My working visa was actually for acting in a children’s show and that publicity got me booked for several photoshoots magazines would use for China tourism magazines. From there I got to travel all around Asia just shooting and visiting wildlife rescues. It was truly the time of my life. After covid I did have to come back to America but I never stopped shooting. I like to drive for a random amount of time determined by a number randomizer and stop wherever I am when the timer stops and just shoot. This has allowed me to see parts of Ohio that Ohio natives don’t know about. Being from Arizona, this is something I’m very proud of honestly!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In terms of photography, it has been very easy because it’s always been about passion not about bookings of publicity. I do this for myself and good things have come from it just by chance!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My real job is retail but my passion is animal welfare and photography! So I shoot everything everywhere. Im known for my dangerous rooftop photos from Asia and areas in Asia known for poverty. Basically I do a lot of street and city photography abroad and that was my claim to ‘fame’. In Ohio I focus shooting small towns and state/national parks!
What sets me apart is I go places completely off the beaten path at around 5am before the sun even rises
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
The only photoediting app I use is meitu!
