Check Out Istina TSOUKOUMBAYA’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Istina TSOUKOUMBAYA.

Hi Istina, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is istina Colombe, originally from Congo known as coco , founder of coco MWASSI LLC, who is a company that specializes in promoting the African Culture in USA . I move in USA in my twenties in November 2014 from some complicated living situation, even leaving my beloved son.
Living in different states as New York, where I created my company in my Bronx room, I found that dressing as African woman people love it , then I started ordering jewelry from different African countries then go to events and sell. And few years after when I moved to Columbus Ohio in 2021, I showcased my 1 st fashion show as culture African and keep going. And my community love my work and always referred me when someone need any African style or catering service.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There was a lot of struggles as time, finances then the community, building relationships with people and communities and make people know you first then push them to buy by teaching them their roots and the meaning of each article that I sell.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I had a chance in my life to own a African restaurant where I don’t just cook food but I also heal our bodies but my special healthy recipes, cooked with fresh species.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
African American descendants have been so wrongly taught about their roots, their heritage, their history and culture, so as I got a chance to speak I teach them and let them know that they have a place back Home waiting on them, stop being afraid, Africa is not about monkeys and people living on trees. African are civilized, we are kings, queens, princes and princesses, we owned lands and richesses, and the land is so blessed and big that we have a place for anyone.
