Check Out Riley Steiner’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Riley Steiner.

Hi Riley, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always had a love for animals from a young age. Growing up I had all sorts of animals from rabbits, to guinea pigs, goats, chickens, cows, sheep and of course dogs. Dogs have almost always been apart of my life. I went to school for Animal Science at The Ohio State University and was initially planning on going to veterinary school, but during my undergrad I decided I would rather raise puppies than spend 4 years in school committing my life to a field I didn’t know I wanted to be in for years to come. I have always thoroughly enjoyed animal genetics, growing up in the cattle world, I learned a lot about animal genetics that fueled my love and passion for learning all about dog genetics, something that I feel sets me apart from a lot of the other breeders out there. I embarked on my breeding journey in 2018 and haven’t looked back. I’ve expanded my program to include guardian homes and puppy raising partners so that the puppies are always getting the proper attention they deserve. I have intentionally kept back puppies that have the quality and standards I look for in my breeding stock and am excited for all that is ahead for my program & what I have to offer to families across the US & beyond! I currently have puppies in well over 40 states, 4 different countries, and also two island puppies in Puerto Rico. It is one of my greatest joys to see my puppies living their best lives all over the world!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Navigating growth in a healthy way has been a challenge. Anytime you bring in others to help grow your business or program you are giving up control in certain areas and you have to work to figure out how to ensure things are getting done with the care and intention that I like it to be done with. It is crucial to invite others into what I am doing in order to grow, but creating good systems to make things flow effortlessly is the hardest thing. We are strong believers that puppies do the best when they are raised in a family setting with intentional socialization and the proper time and attention. There are several ways to grow and we believe that growing in a way where the puppies have lots of interaction with their humans is crucial!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are a doodle breeder, specializing in mini, toy and teacup doodles. We started out breeding just Aussiedoodles and have since brought in the bernedoodle and then crossed the two breeds to get the Aussiemountaindoodle. We are most known for our Aussiedoodles which we have been intentionally breeding for over 8 years. My favorite breed of all of the different breeds I raise are the newly created cross called the Munchkin Bernedoodle which is a Mini Bernedoodle crossed with a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel or a Cavapoo, creating an amazingly loyal family dog! I am most proud of all the lives we have impacted by the quality of puppies we have been able to provide to families all over the world. What sets us apart from other breeders is the attention we give to the genetics behind our puppies, we intentionally select the best of the best when it comes to genetics including OFA hips, elbows, heart, patellas and eyes as well as genetic disorders, temperament & coat texture & color. Most breeders don’t know much about the genetics behind their puppies, but we focus a lot on this aspect of our program.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m not a huge reader, but one book I have consistently read over the years is the Bible. There is nothing more important to base my life around than that. When it comes to podcasts, I really like biblical leadership podcasts, such as the Craig Groeschel Leadership Podcast.
