Conversations with Mackenzie Greer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mackenzie Greer.

Hi Mackenzie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I opened my little shop almost 10 years ago! It started with size-inclusive clothing and slowly morphed into what it is now: a gift shop filled with whimsy & rage from small brands owned by women, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ folks!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned as a small business owner is that you MUST be ready and willing to pivot — whether it be the products you’re carrying or your marketing strategy. This has really taught me to be flexible and embrace change when it’s necessary!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m really passionate about sourcing my goodies from small brands whose values align with mine! And I have a big heart for giving back (shouldn’t we all?) so this year I decided to donate 5% of every single purchase to an organization that’s putting good into the world. Each month I choose a different org — the more local the better — and it’s been really rewarding to be able to not only highlight these folks but to support them financially, even if it’s small!

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I am a former professional flutist and flute teacher! I attended the IU Jacob’s SOM and didn’t see myself ever opening a gift shop (out of my home, no less) but here we are!
