Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Haney.
Hi Matthew, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey started at Leap of Faith when I could barely walk. My mother started a dance company and I was fortunate enough to be the very first student apart of this ministry since 2003. Now here I am today still aprt of the family business and dancing all the time and now apart of our Leap of Faith Pro group. It has been such a blessing to be apart of this and dance for Jesus everyday.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It obviously has not been a smooth road. There have been a lot of hardships along the way and some of the biggest are facing injury challenges and change of scenery. We have moved buildings multiple times and with it being a family business it almost feels like moving from my own home.
It has also been challenging adjusting from the role of a student into the role of a teacher. The transition of being someone who can retain and learn everyday to then being the one that teaches and helps the students learn was quite tricky when I first made the switch.
Being a place where we praise and worship Jesus it is very evident that the devil tries to give us stumbling blocks along the way with injuries. I have been injured multiple times before our big recitals or performances and it has always been difficult but with the power of Christ I was able to overcome. Also cutting off my cast for a recital was another thing that helped me move a little bit better lol.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I do a lot of things here at leap of faith. I am a dancer, teacher, music editor, and marketing director now here at leap of faith.
I’d say one of the things that really sets me apart and something I am most proud of is being able to move and dance. Being 25 and doing the dancing I do now is much harder than being ing high school and never suffering from soreness and fatigue. So the fact that I am still 25 and able to dance is such a blessing.
I just added a little bit of marketing this year with out studio and majoring in marketing I have been able to use a lot of the stuff I learned in college here with Leap of Faith.
I have been editing music for almost 9 years now. Editing music is so fun and something I have loved doing here. Typically most songs are around 3+ minutes long and my job is to make the songs around 1:30 – 2:30 long.
Also teaching is amazing. I get to come to work everyday and share with students what I have learned over my lifetime. I also get to talk openly about our Heavenly Father and how much of an impact He has made in my life.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Yes the most recent risk I have taken is stepping into the non profit business and having a ministry income. It can have its challenges for sure not having super stable income but trusting that God will provide no matter what is definitely challenging.
Everyday being a Christian in a world where Christians are so hated is always a risk. The life of a Christian following God is always going to be a risk. I am not so much a risk-taker myself but that is one of the things that sticks out the most to me.
