Meet Maria Lounsbury of Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Lounsbury.

Hi Maria, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began painting as a means of working through grief. Over the past 10 years painting, for me, has evolved into a source of immense joy. I paint to work through emotions, and feel an immense sort of satisfaction and joy upon studying my finished pieces.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My family has moved quite a few times over the last decade. We have lived in beach condos, single family dwellings, a travel trailer, and sometimes long term stay hotels. My biggest struggle has always been finding adequate space to create. My husband has lovingly always made it a priority to make space for my creativity wherever we go. Less than a year ago he built me my own studio space, Now my struggle is prioritizing time to create while also keeping up with the demands of an active family lifestyle.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an abstract expressionist artist, working primarily with acrylic paint on large scale canvas. I am always the most proud when my daughters want to paint alongside me. I love seeing their creativity thrive and grow. We have worked on a number of pieces together that now decorate our own home. A few others have been sold or given to a few preferred collectors. I consider it an honor that anyone would like one of my works enough to hang in their homes or places of business.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
The best advice I could give to others is just to begin. Begin creating in whatever way brings you joy. I believe one of the reasons humans exist is to create. So my advice to others is to discover what type of creating they enjoy, and to begin feeling that joy.
