Today we’d like to introduce you to Theodora Theodora Ntovas-Roth.
Hi Theodora, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My path to healthy, glowing skin, however, wasn’t in a doctors’ office. It was rooted in a deep connection to my family’s heritage. My grandparents lived off their land in Greece, cooking with the freshest ingredients and using natural remedies for everything. Both of my grandmothers made their own health and beauty treatments from indigenous plants, local flowers, and organic beeswax. My mother continued this tradition and passed it on to me, instilling a profound respect for nature’s power.
For a decade, I was an art director in visual communications, but despite my success, I felt a deep emptiness. There was a calling to return to the Greek village I remembered so fondly—a calling to return to my roots. It was during that trip that everything clicked. The answer to my personal struggle with skin health was tied to the wisdom of my ancestors. A series of events fell into place, and when I returned to the States, YASOU was born.
YASOU skincare was created as a way for me to reconnect with the heritage I had distanced myself from and share that powerful legacy. Our mission is to redefine luxury in the green beauty era by uniting the time-honored quality of old-world ingredients with American new-world science.
YASOU “a toast to your health” is a manifestation of my heart and passion for good health, wholesome ingredients, sustainable practices, and a happy life for all. This isn’t just a brand; it’s a journey to healing and a celebration of natural beauty. We invite you to be a part of it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not a smooth road- Covid happened and my small business went steps backwards but at that time my manufacturer and formulator retired so that is when I decided to learn how to make my creams and started manufacturing them. So I somehow kept my small business alive by making this move and continue to oversee the manufacturing process.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
In my previous life I was an art /creative director, a visual communicator for over 20 years within B2C & B2B platforms within publishing and marketing. This part of my life was extremely beneficial in creating YASOU skin care and growing it. I am most proud of that. Starting something from nothing and nourishing it to grow especially because at the start up time there were not many wellness lines so I saw a need.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I think during covid I took the risk of deciding to manufacture my products on my own and it has paid off. I feel more connected and authentic in making them myself especially since they are not DIY level. YASOU is a water based line with certified organic carrier oils so the process is more time consuming and more precise when cooking.
