Check Out C. Swoope’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to C. Swoope.

Hi C., so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Production and entertainment have been apart of my life for as long as I can remember through my parents. My Father C. Floyd Swoope was an innovator & pioneer in the beauty industry with his Mirror Mirror hair care centers/ franchise. He created activations within this brand from beauty shows, fashion shows, modeling events, a national screen play that my Mom directed and the list goes on… He later opened a full production studio to help aspiring musicians, artists & entertainers reach their dreams. Within these businesses & activations he created his own production company (Greatway Marketing Concepts) that filmed and edited the footage for every event. His kids were all involved in some aspect of these different businesses within the franchise. Very early I gravitated toward filming, editing, acting and hosting under these umbrellas.

In my teenage years my primary focus was basketball and extending that career as far as possible. With the skills I had acquired in video editing, I began creating my own basketball highlight reels to send to different colleges for recruitment. These highlight videos became very popular in the community and the word began to spread. Creating highlight videos for other athletes quickly became a business for myself and my first entry into entrepreneurship.

During my freshman year playing basketball at Cincinnati State, my Dad passed away. My goal was to continue building on everything I had learned and loved doing, while also keeping that part of his legacy alive. With his inherited video equipment, my production company “Major 7 Production” began. I later transferred to Cleveland State University and during this time the company began to film proms, weddings and national AAU basketball tournaments during the weekends. The company also received contracts to film full High School Football and Basketball seasons, along with the continued demand for the highlight videos.

During my final year in college before graduating with a degree in communications/ marketing, I did an unforgettable internship with the Cleveland Cavaliers in their QTV production department. At this time I got an elevated level of experience working with production elites in live time during the games or on commercials for the games. This also gave me experience working around celebs, entertainers and professional athletes.

After graduating, I moved to Atlanta, GA where I worked as a production assistant on pilots for different reality shows and movies. I eventually moved back to Cleveland and after a few years of absence from working in entertainment, I decided to create my own show. A show that would highlight major figures from the city of Cleveland that are making waves on a national scale. This is when my show “That’s Major”was born.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When “That’s Major” began, everything felt aligned and in purpose. Doing what you love while also highlighting others and giving back is a great feeling. With that being said, there are always hurdles when beginning any business venture. No one sees the long days & nights editing film, the non-stop networking/ relationship building, the financial investment of putting a production together, the in depth research on the guest, etc. Doing this job definitely takes resilience, faith and confidence in what you’re doing.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the executive producer, creator and host of “That’s Major” which you can find on YouTube under Major 7 Production. We are very proud to have highlighted Major figures in the culture including professional athletes, national clothing designers, renowned artists in different fields, professional entertainers, the Mayor and more. “That’s Major” is an interview based show where visual entertainment is just as important as the interview itself. The show is a storytelling experience with elements of a documentary and wouldn’t fall under the category of a podcast. I am proud to say that we are really just getting started and our best work has yet to come on a national scale. We have a huge summer ahead! Please stay tuned! That’s Major!

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
If there is anything you love to do and want to pursue, go for it! Don’t be afraid to fail, be afraid of not trying. Lead with the love of your craft, stay as consistent as possible and everything will work out.
