Meet Alex Boydston of Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Boydston.

Hi Alex, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Boydston Productions started from the desire to share peoples stories. There are so many incredible stories out there in the world – whether its a deep personal story, a local business venture, or even a story from an individual event. We want to help those stories get shared.

We offer our services for families, businesses, and just about everything you can think of but our true passion is with weddings.

That would be the best place to address where we got our start.

In 2019, we had been doing various photos & video projects for about 5 years. From family photos, to concerts, and even large commercial shoots for Kemba Financial & E! Entertainment. But we had never tried weddings.

After some convincing from a mentor, we decided to give wedding videography a try. Immediately we fell in love with it. Ironically, we didn’t have a videographer at our wedding (which was a few months before the first one we worked at). That helps drive us to encourage couples to get a videographer though, since we truly understand the impact it can have.

Fast forward 7 years later, we have filmed well over 60 weddings throughout Ohio. We also have been able to work on some really amazing projects outside of weddings such as creating a documentary, working with local companies, and capturing life’s important moments for families.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not. When we first got into weddings, it was 2019 – we loved it and jumped in. Unfortunately, 2020 was the next year which meant we had some cancellations but were lucky that most of them got postponed. Needless to say, it was hard waiting not knowing what would happen.

The other struggles were mainly just trying to help share the importance of wedding videography. Our service is commonly viewed as a “last second addition” or something that is saved if you have some extra money left. Sharing with couples why a video is important has proved to be very challenging as the real impact of “why” doesn’t set in until after the wedding when there is no video. I can’t begin to tell you how many couples we have talked to that say they wish they got a video. But on the other side, i have talked to so many couples we have worked with that talk about how they watch their wedding video on their anniversary every year.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Boydston Productions is a photography & videography company in Columbus Ohio. We specialize in wedding videography but our main goal is to help share stories throughout the great city of Columbus.

Whether it’s someone’s personal story, an event, or a local business looking to share their service, Boydston Productions helps share that story with the rest of the world.

We specialize in wedding videography and that is probably what we are most proud of. We have shot over 60 weddings in our 7 years. We have been a part of some truly magical weddings & helped couples preserve them forever. Whether its a first look, the vows, the small details of the day, or even the small moments – being able to relive those has an impact that goes beyond words. Hearing from our couples years after, how they still watch their video brings us the most joy.

Another project we are proud of is a documentary that we recently created called Generation: Cure. We teamed up with CxG and created a documentary about a man in bexley who ran 65 miles in 65 hours to raise awareness for Cystic Fibrosis. The documentary premiered in April at the Drexel theatre to a sold out audience. It performed so well that we did a second showing almost a month later. The film has currently won, and is up for multiple awards. Just more evidence that the amazing stories are just outside your doorstep, especially in Columbus. For all you know, that person you see running could be doing it for an incredible cause.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I don’t have a single memory that comes to mind. This is a tough one.

But one that does pop up is my love for stories and reading when i was a kid. I used to love going to the library, just the feeling of stepping into the doors and being surrounded by an endless world of stories. You could pick up any book and be taken to a whole new world – whether fiction or nonfiction.
