Today we’d like to introduce you to April Sawicki.

Hi April, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 1999 i graduated from Highland High School and the Medina County Career Center! I received my cosmotolgy license on the first try! Ever since I was a little girl i always wanted to be a hairstylist! Styling my dolls hair, friends hair, even bugging my brother sometimes! In my career I always knew i wanted my own shop! Well one day we were driving by this tiny block building and we said to each other,”that would be a perfect place for me to have a shop!” Well long story short it was waiting for 10 years vacant for me! Come to find out the building we were buying was built in 1968 by a gentleman and opened it as Buz’s Barbershop! That shop was open for 40 years!
I have had so many customers in the area say they wanted to buy this building it just wasn’t right for various reasons! I believe that divine intervention held it for me! My shop has been open now since January 16th! This is my biggest dream come true! I LOVE CUTTING HAIR! So instead of opening a full service salon, i opened it as a haircut only shop! We welcome men, women, and children! I believe that hair can make us feel better when our hair looks good! My main goal is to make sure you leave with a cut you love! I tell everyone please let me know if anything needs adjusted, I want you to be happy when you leave my shop!
I have to admit, the best part about my job is listening to my patrons stories! I have so many police, firemen, veteran’s, government employees and active military everyday! At my shop to honor those in the front lines I have “Hero Mondays” All if these individuals receive and 20% discount on service’s on Mondays! Something very small to thank them for keeping us safe daily!
Please do not ever give up on your dreams! Do not focus on the how and when, focus on what it is you truly want, and I believe it can happen for anyone who is determined enough to work hard and overcome any obstacle!!!! NEVER GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAMS, NO MATTER WHAT!!!!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh my NOOOOO! Lol so many people wanted to buy this building but were deterred because of one thing or another! We had been told the septic was original and may need to replace. Well we had many backups in the shop before I finally got it working! Had to cut up a stump that was forming roots in the main line! After that the pump to the septic has not been running in years! A few parts and some man labor(thanks Chris) and now the lump was working! Boy, then got a brand new split ac/ heat unit! Thinking there would be no issues(it was new, right?) Wrong! The line was not draining properly and it was leaking inside the building, down the walls all down on my pos system! Oi! Well I knew what was wrong and did not have the tools to fix! So $350 later it is now working no drainage inside! Yeah!
With the building sitting empty for 10 years, the zoning had reverted back to residential! Ugh $500 later now i have a conditional variance, i have to pay $150 a year to keep!
There are more stories, but I don’t want to scare anyone away from their dreams!!! I have to admit, it is scary, but well worth it! You never know if you will succeed if you never try!!!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
In my trade you defiantly need to be creative! We have a vision and have to make it happen. I specialize in haircuts! Cutting hair is my passion! A good haircut makes a huge difference! Many of my clients tell me that the cuts I give them never loose their shape, it just gets too long! This is an amazing compliment in the hair world! I have people travel over an hour to get a haircut by me, this makes me feel so special! I do not cut hair for me, I do it for you, my goal is to make you feel good! I pray every time you leave my shop that is how you feel!
One thing that sets me apart from others, I was trained at a young age on hairpieces! When our hair is thinning or going bald this makes us feel a little less than whole! I specialize in razor cuts as well! That same salon where i was an apprentice was where I learned to utilize a razor for haircuts! I never realized other stylists do not use them until I worked at a Great Clips! Every tile a person came in asking for a razor cut, my co-workers would point to me and send them back! I take pride in these things because not every stylist can say they had this training and I am forever grateful to Lorraine, from Lorraines in North Royalton Ohio for this knowledge!!!

What matters most to you?
Making sure you leave my shop happy! Our hair makes or breaks how we feel, if our hair looks bad we feel bad (whether we realize it or not!) My main goal is for you to leave happy so you come back time after time and let me take care of your hair and help you feel your best! Thank you to those who allow me to take care of your hair! Without you I would be nothing!!!
