Meet Cindy Comperchio of Bellbrook

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Comperchio.

Hi Cindy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Community Support Center serves neighbors in need with food, hygiene and cleaning supplies, diapers and baby wipes, and special programs at Thanksgiving and Christmas every year. Throughout the year we also participate in programs to assist families in need with back to school supplies, Halloween costumes, and more. As the Executive Director, I can attest to the need being very real, and continuous. We provide a hand up rather than a hand out, to those in our area who have more “month than money.” What we do helps strengthen our community, making it a better place for all. For more information, please visit our website at www.bscsc.org or call our office at 937-848-3810.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The struggles we’ve had along the way have generally been raising the funds we need when we need them. We are fortunate to receive a large amount of in-kind donations in the way of food and cleaning and hygiene supplies, but we need cash as well in order to pay our rent and keep the lights on!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As Executive Director, I came to the Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Community Support Center (BSCSC) with many years of both paid and volunteer support in the non-profit space. I’ve served on 6 boards over the years and also served as the Chair of the United Way of Warren County (OH) Annual Campaign in 2010, raising almost $2 million in much need funds. I also understand how to make community connections, having worked in Private Banking, Trust and Investing for over 2 decades. I’m also the proud mother of 3, including an autistic son, and a proud graduate of Xavier University.

What does success mean to you?
Success, to me, is defined by the positives you leave behind wherever you go, and by whatever you do. And that is on a daily basis. Everything that I, and the BSCSC, can do each day that leaves a positive mark on the community, a family, an individual, or any of the community partners we work with, is a success. And to be able to engage young people in the philosophy of giving, and set them on a giving path for life, is a huge mark of success, and I see this happening with the young volunteers that work with the BSCSC.
