Check Out Finley (girlgonemissing) Winters’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Finley (girlgonemissing) Winters.

Hi Finley (girlgonemissing), so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started as a kid writing songs on my dad’s work notepads, I’d write love songs to my crushes and fantasize about performing them for them. Once I turned 13, I spent the summer working for my grandma to afford my first acoustic guitar, and never put it down since. I started going to college for music production and audio recording a few years ago, where I deep dove into EDM and heavily produced music and found where my real passion was. I realized as I’d made more musician friends and gotten further into the field running live sound that most artists hate the business side of music, they just want to focus on their creative works. Personally, I love all things music (hence the slogan for Lost Signals LLC) so I saw the opportunity to help the community and myself and make a huge difference. I can’t take all the credit, however, because I wouldn’t have been able to get where I am without the support of my friends and family. I have had so many moments where I felt like fully giving up, and it was the love they showed me that made me keep pushing. With my LLC, I’m hoping to help them succeed too for everything they’ve done for me. 🙂

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Growing up, I was bullied for my music. I learned to sing and play quietly for the longest time so people couldn’t hear me. I was the weird outcast kid in the back of the class, barely any friends and isolated. I also got into a terribly toxic relationship that separated me from all of my friends and most of my family, and I lost myself in the process. I stopped creating, worked constantly and felt stuck and like I was going nowhere. I tried college as a psychology major originally, where I had to leave class all the time because I’d have panic attacks from just being in the vicinity with other people because I’d lost all my social skills. I had been through so much at that point I was so drained, but it’s been in the past year that I’ve made so much progress on myself and my career and I couldn’t be more thankful for where I am today!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I just recently started releasing music as an independent artist about 2 months ago. I found an opportunity to perform at the Cymatics Music Networking Event in New York, and everyone’s reactions to my music made me finally feel confident enough to start releasing. My first song “in my mind” is known for the vocal chopping and unique synths, full drops and production quality. I’m mostly proud of my ability to overcome my fears and perform my songs live for the first time at Soberay365 back in April. I want everyone to feel like it’s okay to be weird and unique and put yourself out there even if you’re terrified, and I think my performance (although very awkward and messy) got the message across well. I think what sets me apart from others is I’m not trying to be famous or have the “famous attitude”, I just want to share my music and excitement with the world and find other people that relate to me; the weirdos, the nerds, the freaks of the world. I love all of the people I’ve met along the way with releasing music and music content on Instagram, and I’m so excited to see where everything goes long term!

What makes you happy?
The thing that makes me happiest is connecting with my audience and with my clients. I love seeing people light up at my work, whether it’s live sound, producing, creating + collaborating, all of it. I think the world can be a dark place, and it brings me a lot of joy being able to lighten things up a little with my music and with the help I give other musicians!
