Hidden Gems: Meet Jordan Bewley of Skyview Lodge Inc.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Bewley.

Jordan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Established in 1969, Tom Bewley saw a “diamond in the rough” when he purchased the 50-acre parcel in Brunswick with nothing more than an old barn and a dream. The barn, originally built in 1869, became the foundation for what he envisioned would be a Ski Lodge, but would ultimately become the event center that it is today. Although many updates and renovations have taken place over the last 50+ years the original barn remains intact, and its beams are still visible in the hall.

Tom’s dream originated while he was stationed in the Garmisch Alps during his tour of duty with the Army in WWII. It was there that he fell in love with the chalet architecture, steep banks, & rolling hills that were perfect for skiing.

When Tom bought the property, he brought some of that style to Brunswick and began creating his vision. With the help of his son Gary Bewley, he brought that vision to life by shaping the landscape and resurrecting the old barn to emulate a ski chalet.

It was then that the hall rental business was born, and Gary began managing the business operations. Over the years Skyview Lodge has held countless events and has been called home by numerous of organizations including churches, dance studios, karate dojo’s, yoga studios, and theater troupes.

With Tom’s vision in mind the building was renovated again in 2001 to expand its capacity and continue building upon the success of the hall rentals for Weddings, Graduation Parties, Baby Showers, Celebrations of Life, Bridal Showers, Birthday Parties, and many other types of events!

Gary, now President & Owner, continues to build the dream that his father envisioned over 50 years ago, along with help from his son’s. Jordan Bewley, currently Vice President, is at the helm of the organization running the day to day operations and working through another succession plan with his father over the next few years.

Skyview Lodge heads into its 3rd generation of family ownership & tradition with big plans on the horizon!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Skyview Lodge was built from the blood, sweat, and tears of the Bewley family, and the support from our community. It has been a long and difficult road building a business and renovating the property along the way, but we have weathered the storm with a creative approach to every problem. Each generation has dealt with unique challenges from initial construction issues all the way to the pandemic. Our resilience has stood the test of time and established us as a historic pillar in the community.

As you know, we’re big fans of Skyview Lodge Inc. . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Skyview Lodge is a Family owned and operated business spanning 3 generations for over 50 years. We specialize in Weddings, & other events. We are most notably know for our amazing view to the West with incredible sunsets!

We are different from other venues in the area for many reasons:
1. We strive to make customer service our number 1 priority.
2. We have worked very hard to keep our hall affordable for EVERY event. From baby showers to full blown Weddings we have extremely competitive prices.
3. Lastly, but most importantly, we are personally invested in every client and event. The Skyview family is at every event and our clients are always working directly with the decision makers. We are not a corporate franchise.

We are most proud of our Legacy in the community and our Employees growth over the years. If you mention Skyview Lodge in our community someone knows who we are and they have either attended an event with us or know someone who has. We are also very proud to have helped developed many employees throughout the years, sometimes as their first job, that have gone on to do great things. We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Skyview Lodge operated as a Ski Lodge for a number of years in the early 1970’s. We would rent innertubes and toboggans for people to enjoy winter activities. At one point we even had a fireplace in the hall to keep our guests warm. The sandstone foundation that the original structure was built on was pulled from the very sandstone shelf that the building sits on today and is the highest point in Medina county.
