Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephenie Boys.
Hi Stephenie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
What started as a creative hobby quickly became a passion-driven career. I’m completely self-taught and first picked up a camera while photographing jewelry I made and sold myself. Learning product photography sparked something bigger, and over the last 14 years I’ve been dedicated to creating memories for families by capturing meaningful images. Today, photography has grown from a side hobby into my full-time career, allowing me to serve clients and balance family time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey hasn’t always been easy. Like many creatives and entrepreneurs, I’ve faced seasons of inconsistent income, self-doubt, and the constant pressure to evolve in an industry that changes quickly. There were times I questioned whether I was talented enough, relevant enough, or whether photography — often seen as a “luxury” rather than a necessity — would be sustainable long term.
But through every challenge, I kept showing up. I continued learning, adapting, refining my work, and building real connections with clients.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m best known for creating authentic, personality-driven portraits for high school seniors and families, capturing genuine connection and emotion in every session. I’ve also built a unique presence within the Santa Claus community, photographing and educating Santas across the country through branding portraits, workshops, and specialty sessions that help bring their characters and stories to life.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Taking the leap into photography was a major risk for me. My degree is in social work, so choosing to step away from the traditional career path I studied for and pursue a creative business full time felt uncertain and intimidating. Despite the fear and instability that can come with entrepreneurship, I chose to follow the passion I couldn’t ignore — and built a career doing what I love.
