Inspiring Conversations with Kristy Lantz of Tiny Changes Speech and Language Therapy, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristy Lantz.

Hi Kristy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started working as a Speech Language Pathologist in 2016. My career first started working in a school for students on the autism spectrum, and working with children who had other developmental and neurogenic disorders. This provided a foundation for me to support students who were nonverbal, who had speech sound disorders, language disorders, auditory processing disorders, and pragmatic language disorders. My caseload was very diverse, and I learned many valuable skills in this setting.

After having my first child, I decided to explore other settings and find my niche. I worked as a contractor for school districts and eventually landed in an educational center providing services for preschool students. Helping young children find their words, refine their language skills, and overcome speech sound and phonological processing disorders brought me great joy. I supported local school districts while doing so, and became very adept at working with special education teams across Summit County.

My experience working on a multidisciplinary team provided me with a strong foundation in successfully working with other professionals and supporting individual student needs. While doing so, I decided to take what I had learned into my own hands and start my private practice, Tiny Changes Speech and Language Therapy, LLC. My business provides support for children of all ages, and currently provides services in a variety of childcare settings. Older students are seen for services at local community centers and/or libraries, and this provides a lot of flexibility for families in need of communication services.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As a speech therapist who has worked through the challenges of Covid (mandated virtual learning) and facing other limitations working in school settings, I can say the road has not always been smooth. I am grateful, however, for all of the challenges, because it has helped me become the clinician I am today. I am thankful for my experience, and genuinely love what I do. I celebrate my students’ success with their loved ones, and I am so proud of all the hard work they have done. Helping students and their families find success through functional communication is an honor.

As you know, we’re big fans of Tiny Changes Speech and Language Therapy, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Tiny Changes was designed to help families find some more time for their personal lives. When my business is contacted, an SLP will travel to your preferred location (community centers, library, childcare center, preschool, etc.) to provide individualized services. As with any other communication services provider, we do screenings, evaluations, and design individualized goals designed to help children find success using speech and language across all communication settings. What is unique about our approach is that we don’t have an extended wait list, and can travel to see your child in the school setting. This can relieve a lot of stress for families who know how long it can take for a child to start receiving speech and language services due to waitlists. My organization can provide in-person, virtual, and hybrid services to meet each client’s personal scheduling needs.
