Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Chamberlain.
Melissa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Tidy up with Melissa started as a dream that I could make a living doing what I loved, helping people get organized and feeling better about the spaces they lived in. At the beginning I started this as a side hustle. I would go to clients homes on the weekends or evenings after work and help people tidy up! I would usually declutter with my client and then spend time organizing.
After about a year of my dream job on the side, I was laid off of my real job. So, this was my time to make it! I called my few clients that day to tell them I had daytime availability. It was off to the races since then! I have been able to get two amazing ladies on board with me and now we can go and tidy up together or split up and go to different homes to reach more clients! It has been the most exciting journey and 4 1/2 years later i’m still just as excited to get to help our clients!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Owning your own business is always something that has the potential to be very inconsistent and that was really something I had to get used to. I worked in a corporate job for 16 years so finding my own work wasn’t something I had ever done. The road has been mostly exciting! There have been some weeks and months that were slower than the rest, but at this point we are so lucky to have amazing maintenance clients that keep us busy along with new projects always coming our way all the time.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My business, Tidy up with Melissa is a home organization business. We specialize in home organization and setting up systems that work for our clients specific needs. Many of our clients have one project in mind and then want to keep going on their organizational journey. So in many cases we end up doing most of their homes and some choose to also use us for maintenance sessions, sometimes monthly or quarterly. We also love doing holiday decoration and then taking those same decorations down since we know where it all belongs.
Another facet is move prep, packing and unpacking. We have helped many people declutter and downsize for a move or unpack at their new home! Getting set up in your new space right out of the gate is so crucial and some people simply don’t have the time to do it themselves.
Im really proud of the fact that many of our clients feel like family to us! We truly get to be a part of our clients lives and love getting to help them feel so much better about their own spaces. Im also so proud of my team, I have the best ladies working with me!

One of the biggest complements we get is when clients or friends text photos of an organization project they are working on. I love that people will think of me to share their progress! We are all always here to cheer you on to make your space feel good!
