Daily Inspiration: Meet Scott Keller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Keller.

Scott, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My wife Deena and I didn’t start Be Prepared Vacations because we were looking to start a travel agency. Like many things in life, it started with a single trip that changed everything.

In 2017, we took our two-year-old daughter to Walt Disney World for the first time. Neither of us had been since we were kids, and we honestly didn’t know what to expect. But the moment we arrived, something clicked. Watching our daughter experience the parks for the first time was pure magic. By the end of the trip, we were already talking about when we could come back.

And we did.

Over the next few years, Disney World became a regular part of our lives. We started visiting once or twice a year. Each trip we learned more. Which resorts we loved. How transportation worked. The best ways to plan park days with kids. Where to find the little experiences that make Disney special.

At the same time, I already had experience building websites. Years earlier, I had started Bird Watching HQ, a website focused on helping people learn about birds and wildlife. That experience showed me how powerful it can be to create helpful content online.

So after several Disney trips, we decided to start a Disney website that shared our experiences and helped families understand the different resorts, transportation options, and planning strategies. Our goal was simple: create the kind of resource we wished we had when we planned our first trip.

To our surprise, the website took off.

As more people started reading our guides, a new question began showing up in our inbox over and over again.

“Can you help us plan our trip?”

At first we just answered questions and offered advice. But eventually it became clear that many families wanted more than information. They wanted someone who could actually help them plan everything.

That’s when Deena took the next step.

She became an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner through a host travel agency. It turned out to be a perfect fit. Deena loved helping families plan their vacations, and she was incredibly good at it. Clients appreciated her attention to detail and her genuine excitement about helping them experience Disney the way our family had.

After a few years of success, we started talking about the possibility of doing something bigger.

About a year ago, we decided to take the leap and open our own travel agency: Be Prepared Vacations.

The name reflects how we approach Disney travel, along with a nod to my favorite Disney movie (The Lion King). Disney trips are incredible, but they can be complicated and require preparation. When families understand the resorts, transportation, dining, and park strategies ahead of time, the entire experience becomes smoother and more enjoyable.

Today, our agency focuses on helping families plan trips to Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and Universal Orlando.

Deena handles the vacation planning and works directly with clients to build their trips. I run the business side of things, drawing on my experience from ten years as a State Farm agent, where I learned the importance of customer service, relationships, and building a business that people trust.

What started as a website and a handful of trip requests has grown quickly, and we’re just getting started.

Our goal is to grow Be Prepared Vacations into a team of travel advisors who share the same passion we do. We want to build a group of people who love Disney, love helping families, and understand how powerful these vacations can be.

Because for us, it was never just about the parks.

It was about watching our daughter (and now son) see Disney for the first time. It was about the memories our family made together. And now we get to help other families create those same moments.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Planning a Disney vacation today is very different than it was years ago. Between choosing the right resort, understanding park tickets, securing dining reservations, and learning strategies for Lightning Lanes and park touring, there are dozens of decisions that can affect how a trip goes. Our job is to guide families through those choices and make sure they feel confident and prepared before they even leave home.

What we’re probably most known for is the level of preparation and support we provide before the trip. Every client receives personalized recommendations based on their family, their travel style, and what they want to get out of the vacation. After booking, we also send a long series of planning emails that walk families step-by-step through everything they need to know before they go, including reminders, tips, packing advice, and planning strategies.

One thing that sets us apart is that our advice comes from real personal experience. My wife Deena and I travel to Disney destinations ourselves with our family, and much of the content on our website comes directly from those trips. The photos we share are our own, and the recommendations we make are based on what we’ve actually experienced.

I’m also very proud that our services are completely free to our clients. Many people don’t realize that Disney and other travel suppliers build travel advisor commissions into the cost of the vacation. That means families can receive expert planning help, ongoing support, and insider guidance while paying the exact same price they would if they booked directly.

What I’m most proud of, though, is the impact these trips have on families. Disney vacations are often once-in-a-lifetime experiences, and helping families create memories together is incredibly rewarding. Hearing from a client after their trip and learning that it was smoother, more fun, and less stressful because of our help is the best part of what we do.
