Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan Wiles.
Hi Bryan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’d describe my story as a mix of faith, relationships, and a growing passion for building things that last—both in people and in business.
I attended Bowling Green State University, where I studied education. However, when I graduated, I felt a clear pull and calling into ministry, which has really shaped everything I do today. I was deeply impacted by H2O Church (h2ochurch.com) during my time as a student at BGSU, so stepping into a role where I could give back and serve in the same community that invested so much in me felt like a natural next step.
Through my involvement with H2O Church, I’ve had the opportunity to invest in people, help lead and steward resources, and be part of something focused on long-term impact. Being part of H2O has taught me to think beyond just financial return—how to build systems, develop leaders, and make decisions with a bigger purpose in mind.
During that same season, I met my amazing wife, Sarah. We met as students at BGSU, got married in 2003, and now have three wonderful kids in their teenage years. We are incredibly proud of them and the people they are becoming.
About 10 years into my ministry career, I began getting involved in real estate. I had worked construction in college and initially thought owning a couple of rental properties could serve as a college savings plan for our kids. What started small eventually grew into what is now Heartland Rentals, where we focus on providing clean, well-managed, affordable housing—primarily in Bowling Green, Ohio.
Over time, we expanded into short-term rentals and additional properties, learning a lot through both successes and mistakes along the way. That hands-on experience helped me understand not just the numbers, but also operations, tenant relationships, and how to grow in a sustainable and responsible way.
More recently, I’ve been focused on growing Progress Point Properties (progresspointproperties.com), our development and new construction company. This has been an exciting next step—moving from buying and renovating existing properties to creating new communities and housing from the ground up. It’s been both challenging and incredibly rewarding. It’s also allowed us to think bigger, work with partners and investors, and bring a higher level of intentionality to design, quality, and long-term value.
Where I am today is really the result of those three areas coming together. My faith and ministry work with H2O continues to ground me and shape how I lead, while Heartland Rentals and Progress Point are the vehicles where I get to apply those principles in a tangible way—building homes, creating opportunities, and working alongside great people.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have no complaints about the journey, but there have certainly been challenges along the way—both in ministry and in business.
In ministry, one of the hardest parts is that you’re working with people, and people come with real struggles, disappointments, and seasons of growth. There have been times of seeing people walk away from their faith, navigating leadership challenges, and walking through seasons where things didn’t grow the way we hoped. Those moments can be discouraging, but they’ve also been some of the most refining—teaching me patience, perseverance, and how to trust God with the outcomes.
On the real estate side, there have been plenty of learning curves as well. Early on, I underestimated the time commitment, dealt with difficult tenant situations, and made decisions that I would approach differently today. There have been projects that didn’t go as planned, unexpected repairs, and seasons of financial pressure when things didn’t line up the way I expected.
As we’ve grown into larger projects and development through Progress Point Properties, the stakes have only gotten higher. Managing partners, capital, timelines, and construction all at once can be complex, and there’s definitely been stress that comes with that level of responsibility.
Balancing all of this with family life has also been a challenge at times. There have been seasons where the demands of ministry and business stretched me thin, and I’ve had to learn how to better prioritize my time and be more present at home.
But looking back, those challenges have been a valuable parts of the journey. They’ve shaped how I lead, how I make decisions, and how I approach both ministry and business today. They’ve also helped me build resilience and a longer-term perspective—understanding that growth rarely comes without difficulty, and it almost never happens overnight. It takes patience, persistence, and a willingness to keep moving forward.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Progress Point Properties is a residential development and new construction company focused on building high-quality homes and thoughtfully designed communities, primarily in Bowling Green, Ohio. At our core, we’re not just building houses—we’re creating places where people can live, grow, and put down roots.
We specialize in semi-custom homes and infill development. A big part of what we do is taking underutilized properties and turning them into well-planned neighborhoods that balance design, functionality, and long-term value. We work closely with buyers, investors, and partners throughout the entire process—from land acquisition and planning to construction and final delivery.
What sets us apart is our combination of hands-on experience and a long-term perspective. We’re not just builders—we’re active members of the same community we’re building in. All of our partners are invested in making our city a better place, both through development and through serving the community in various ways. Because of that, we think differently about durability, maintenance, and how homes actually perform over time. We care about the details that matter long after the sale, not just what looks good on day one.
We also place a high value on relationships and integrity. Whether we’re working with homeowners, subcontractors, or investment partners, we aim to be transparent, dependable, and solutions-oriented. Our goal is to create win-win outcomes and build trust over the long haul—not just complete transactions.
From a brand standpoint, what I’m most proud of is the value we bring to our buyers. We want Progress Point homes to be known for clean design, practical layouts, and quality finishes—homes that feel both elevated and livable. We’re constantly refining our process, materials, and design approach to deliver a better product with each project.
As we continue to grow, our focus is on scaling in a way that stays true to who we are—developing communities that add real value, building homes we’re proud to stand behind, and creating opportunities for the people we work with.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is seeing people grow—whether that’s in their relationship with God, in their families, or in opportunities they’ve been given.
A lot of that comes from my faith. I believe we’re created for a purpose, so when I get to be part of helping someone take a step forward—spiritually, personally, or even through something like providing a home—it’s really meaningful to me.
I also find a lot of joy in my family. Being present with my wife and kids and watching them grow into who they’re becoming is something I don’t take for granted.
At the end of the day, it’s those relationships—with God and with people—that bring the most fulfillment.
