Community Highlights: Meet Tisha Angelo of Second Chance Canine LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tisha Angelo.

Hi Tisha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) and the founder of Second Chance Canine. My journey began as a volunteer at a local humane society, where I worked hands-on with dogs in need and saw firsthand how many end up in shelters simply because their families lack the right guidance. That experience sparked a deep passion for helping dogs and the people who love them, and it became my mission to keep dogs in their homes and out of shelters.
I provide in-home training, working with dogs in the environment where they live to address real-life challenges. For dogs who need extra support, I also offer board-and-train programs and boarding services for trusted care while their owners are away. Every program I provide emphasizes positive reinforcement, practical strategies, and compassion.
I started my business to follow my passion and fulfill my goal of helping animals. My training philosophy is rooted in love, patience, and kindness, and I’m committed to never giving up on a dog.
Many clients come to me after being told their dog cannot be helped. Often, they’ve nearly lost hope. I’m grateful to help these dogs and their families find a path forward together.
I also work with humane societies and rescues that have dogs with nowhere else to go. I welcome these dogs into my boarding facility and work with them patiently because I believe every dog deserves a chance.
In addition to my work, I’m a mom to an amazing daughter who sees firsthand the love, kindness, and respect animals deserve. I often work with families, teaching both parents and children how to care for their pets with compassion and understanding.
My purpose is to reinforce the lifelong commitment that comes with owning a pet. My goal is simple: to help pets thrive in their homes and families feel confident and connected with them.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road hasn’t always been smooth. One of the biggest challenges is seeing dogs whose families give up too soon. Sometimes people aren’t able to commit to the time and consistency required, even though meaningful change is possible with the right support. It’s difficult to see a dog’s potential limited by a lack of follow-through rather than ability.
Another challenge is working in a field where not all trainers use positive, force-free methods. Harsh or outdated approaches can set dogs and families back, which ultimately makes progress more difficult.
Despite this, I stay focused on what I can control—providing guidance, support, and effective solutions. Every success story reinforces why this work matters.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Second Chance Canine is a professional dog training and boarding service dedicated to helping dogs and their families overcome behavior challenges while staying together. I offer in-home training to address real-life issues, along with board-and-train programs and boarding for dogs who need more focused support.
I specialize in working with dogs facing more serious challenges, including fear, anxiety, leash reactivity, resource guarding, and aggression—even those labeled as untrainable. Each training plan is customized to the individual dog, using positive reinforcement and science-based methods to create lasting results.
What sets my work apart is my commitment to both the dog and the family. I focus not just on behavior change, but on building understanding, trust, and long-term success.
I’m proud that Second Chance Canine has become a trusted resource in the community, helping families navigate difficult situations and strengthen their relationships with their dogs.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck has played a role in both positive and challenging ways. I’ve been fortunate to connect with incredible people and organizations—from shelters and rescues to veterinarians and dedicated pet owners. Those relationships have helped grow Second Chance Canine into a respected community resource.
On the other hand, I’ve also seen difficult situations where families give up on their pets, sometimes even after receiving help. While heartbreaking, those experiences have strengthened my commitment to providing the support and guidance needed to keep dogs in their homes.
Overall, I feel lucky to have built a career around something I care deeply about and to make a meaningful difference for dogs and their families every day.
